Swiss Question????????
« on: February 26, 2003, 12:25:16 PM »
Yo Guys, I have a question for those of you have loaded with Swiss Powder.  I have heard that Swiss doesn't like to be compressed very much, and I am trying to load Starline cases (.40-65) with Swiss 2fg under a milk carton wad, 1/8" grease cookie, and 435 grain RCBS cup base PP bullet cast 30-1.

With the bullet engraved by the lands about 1/8" I am only able to get 51 grains of Swiss 2fg in the case without compression, and accuracy is not as good as it is with other BP that is much cheaper.

If anyone has experience with this powder please speak now or forever hold your piece.   :-D   Omaha

OP,

I used Swiss 1.5 for about a year (1 case). It seemed to have several compression "steps" that it liked in my rifles. It shot well with hardly any compression, then peaked again at about .230". I've spoken with several other guys that report similar experiences. Swiss will shoot with some compression, the trick is finding the right level.
