Thinking of getting one but wondered if anyone had experience with them and accuracy?  Love the looks, just wondered how they shoot.  Thanks  Buckfever

 Are you talking brand name or rifle style?

I have a Mannlicher-Schoenauer Takedown Carbine in 6.5x54. It has double set triggers and is topped with a Nikon 3-9x40 scope.  It is an exceptionally good shooter, very accurate.  I do not use it as a field gun, too expensive.  I also have a Sako .308 with a full length mannlicher stock.  It is a tack driver.

My field guns are TOOLS.  I try to take the best care I can to keep them "beautiful", several others, like the Mannlicher were bought while I was in europe more as an investment more than a tool.  I don't think the average person would subject an expensive gun to the type of use it gets in the field when a less expensive model will work just as well.

CZ 550 Full Stock
« Reply #2 on: September 08, 2005, 01:32:25 PM »
My Brother owns a CZ 550 Full Stock in 7x57mm and with 160 grain Nosler Partitions on top of H414 powder, the rifle will put three rounds into a group hoovering right at .75 inch, and that is with the slug moving at better than 2,600 feet per second. It shoots 140 grain Remington factory loads at 1.25 to 1.5 inches at 100 yards, all from sandbag rests. It is a flat stock factory rifle and the only modification is polish the bolt handle and jewell the bolt body, and refinish the stock. It wears a 4x12 Fullfield scope. A buddy of his has a duplicate of Duffy's (my brother) rifle and it too, is sickingly accurate. No glassbedding, no nothing except shooting handloads. These are the only fullstocks I have experience with so far. Tom Purdom 8)

I should have never-ever sold my lomg gone Interarms Mark X Mannlicher in .270, that gun handled like a dream, smooth and very accurate. I was very dumb for selling that one, the only gun I ever regret selling :( Jack.

Hi All,

I've just picked one up in 7x57.  It's a really well done custom job on a Fajian stock and uses a herstal action that was used in the venezuelan military.  I shot it last week with Win 145gr ammo.  I plan to load 140gr accubonds later this week.  It shot really well or at least as I expected.  About 1.5" at 100yrds. I bought it because I always wanted a 7x57 in some classic rifle.  I had it drilled and tapped and a .5" recoil pad added to give me some length.  There are some pics of it on the website below if you are interested.

I'd look at the rugers as a start.  They are not bad as a first mannlicher.

Regards,

Doug

Well lets see, I have 1 6.5 X 55 Swede take down rifle, 1 7 x  57 Mauser, 1 .318 Westley Richards, 1 6.5 X 55 Swede Mannlicher carbine, 1 Ruger International carbine in .308 and a 10/22, oh, and a Sako 6.5 X 55 that I'm having a MPI synthetic stock mounted to as I shattered the stock, so that's seven...I'm having a Ruger #1 International made in .204 as a neat little carry gun and I wouldn't mind getting a European single shot rifle in 5.? X ? mm...

Oh, I forgot, I have a .50 Jaeger Flintlock rifle to add to the list.  That makes 8, plus one on the way and one still coming, and then there is this take down spoon bolt Mannlicher (The Company) that I saw that I must have but have to find it first, as all I've seen are photos.  Do you think I like them....Nah.

They offer design, style, looks.  If you bed them right, you'll nay get warping...full length with blocks and free floated and they will work and shoot were you set them and they'll look great doing it.

Had a Ruger, I think M77 Mannlicher. It was wonderfully accurate as a deer rifle (30-06). The NY climate had no effect on great accuracy. Gave it to my son as a HS grad present. He lets me use it every once in a while. I just can't do most of my hunting without my .300 Savage model 99f...1955!

I'd like to buy one of the Ruger's, but can't decide between .270 and .308. Not sure if that short barrel gives up too much velocity in the .270. Anyone notice a difference with .270 in effectiveness?

I have a Steyr-Mannlicher in 7mm-08 and absolutely love it. I have NEVER shot a better rifle (and I have shot quite a few as a friend owns a gun shop). The craftmanship is superb. I can't wait for them to make a .325 WSM!
