Hello all, any Weatherby fans on this board. I sure love my Weatherby ultra-lite in 257 weatherby mag. With federal premium 115gr nosler partions it will shoot about 1/2" groups.

If your a weatherby fan, share what you have. Regards, Byron  :D

I would like to see Lawdog's list on all the Weatherby rifles he has

I had a Mark 5 Sporter in 30-06.  It was a nice rifle except it scratched way too easy.  But they rank right up there with Sako rifles on my list.

Basically all my Weatherby rifles are Mark V Deluxe’s with one exception.  An unfired Mark V Crown Custom .224 Weatherby Magnum that was given to me by a client.  The standard Deluxe’s are .224, .240, .257, .270, 7mm, 2 .300, .340, .375, and a .378 Weatherby Magnum’s.  Still have the .416 and .460 to add to my collection then it will be complete.  Add to that list 4 Weatherby O/U shotguns, 2 Weatherby XXII’s rifles and a Weatherby AccuMark single shot pistol in .223 Remington(discontinued in 1999 and only in production for one year - only 41 of these were ever made).  I am still looking to find a near factory AccuMark pistol in the repeater version in either .22-250 or .243 Win. caliber.  Have yet to find one that hasn't been modified.  I have been collecting Weatherby products since 1963.  Been a fan ever since.  Lawdog

i too love the weatherbys. i want a mark V someday when i have the cashola.

i really think theyre the best rifles made.

i am sure you could have a custom made that is fitted and finished and shoots as well or better but not for the price you can buy a weatherby for.

great guns and even better lookers.

Was a 300 Weatherby Magnum MK V in 1974. After 31 years I FINALLY got one! It's from Atascadero and I put a 4.5-14X Zeiss Conquest (50mm objective) on it. This one shoots as well as the 1974 experience (a Japan Weatherby) I had as a sophomore in high school. If I had to choose ONE rifle: Weatherby 300 Magnum Custom Deluxe MK V.

Any of you have much experience with the 240 weatherby mag. I'm considering one in the ultra lite rifle. I think it would be ideal for these little blacktails in southeast alaska. Regards, Byron  :D

I saved up to buy a once in a life-time rifle.  Got the SBGM in .300 win. mag and have had nothing but problems.  The stock cracked by the mag well and the rifle shot 3 inch groups with every load but Hornady.  It shoots 1.5 with hornady, but the heavy mags do kick pretty hard on a sub 7 lbs rifle.  1.5 may sound ok, but for $1,300, I would expect 1/2 inch groups.  Really pisses me off.  Thinking about selling it and getting a sako.  My $300 and $600 rifles do it. I can take my  remington 700 and put all ten rounds in under 1 inch.

It does carry great in the mountains and I have killed 3 elk with it so it's not totally useless, but it brings me to tears and great wailing when I zero and it has flyers all over the place.  I might try an accumark in the future when I start making some money.

I have a Weatherby Mark V Lightweight Synthetic in 280 Remington that I had rechambered to 280 Rem AI.  Shoots factory Remington 140 grain green box ammo into 2" while fireforming and have been able to get 1" or less with anything I have loaded for it.

Kills game too.

Both my oldest daughter and I shoot .240 Weatherby's.  Hers is a older tang safety Ruger M77 I built for her.  Mine is a Weatherby Mark V Deluxe.  On Blacktails it's deadly.  The load that the daughter and I use for all deer(Mule and Blacktail) is 53.8 gr. of IMR-7828ssc for 3,254 fps. using Nosler 100 gr. Partitions.  This load shoots under 3/4” in both of our rifles.  While I wouldn’t recommend going hunting Black Bears with this cartridge, at 2350 fpe. it should speak well for it’s self should the need arise against a “Blackie”.  Lawdog

P.S.. - Remember any load you get from any source other than loading manuals it’s advisable to start under the stated charge and work up.  A good rule of thumb is 10% under and work up.  This is what I do.  LD

The first MK V Custom Deluxe I bought in 1991 used and unfired in German manufacture with original Weatherby Nichols scope variable 1 1/2 to 9X variable. It shot 3/4" groups with original 75 and 100gr Norma ammo. I sold it. Biggest mistake in my whole life. Now I have a new 300 WBY MK V. I am happy. But my next rifle WILL BE a .240 in MK V Custom Deluxe. I need real wood on my rifles.

Byron,

What make and weight bullets were you wanting to use?  What powders have you tried?  I'd be happy to work with you on developing some loads for your .257 Weatherby.  Normally the favorite of Roy Weatherby is a very accurate cartridge.  Send me a PM and we can exchange e-mails and get your .257 Weatherby shooting like it should.  Lawdog

Just got back after 2 days in town. You know sheets on the beds and restaurants to eat in. Any way at the pawn shop they had a weatherby mark V deluxe, used but in excellent condition in 240WM cal.

Sure was tempting, but I want the ultra-lite. Regards, Byron  :D
