for those of you just joining I got a Spanish SxS off the internet that was very rough (actually it was horrible but don't tell my wife since she knows how much I paid for it.
The stock was cracking at the back of both side plates, the lever screw won't come off and nothing was even close to smooth--more like the surface of a brick.
So this was to be my "project gun." I ground down the leaf springs. Smoothed everything out (that took a week) and Acraglased the receiver to the stock (another learning experience.)
But all in all, I shot it last weekend and it did quite well. Still have to work on the hammer springs but that's about it.
The stock was bothering me now that the gun works. I stained it walnut and with about 4,386,241 coats of Tru-Oil it looked like sh*t--I mean that--it was that color! It was not even close to what I was trying to get to.
So yesterday I cleaned all the CAS guns and then tore down the shotgun. Tonight I stripped the finish and stain off the stock and in a couple of days (want to let the wood dry fully) I'll go to Home Depot and see if I can find something with a bit of red in it. Not flame red but something with some red in it. Sorta like the 66s and 73s that come from across the pond.
Then a few thousand coats of tru-oil and it will be ready for next month's shoot.
While I work on the stock I'll address the springs, too
And with all of this I enjoy CAS more than my job...
