Alright i've got a folding prone/bench bipod and i heard centerfire NEFs don't shoot too well with them on, but what about a rimfire like .17hmr. The recoil is so minimal that the shot shouldn't be affected. I guess the biggest thing would be messing up the barrel harmonics, but small round and big bull barrel i think a bipod could be do-able. Anyone try a bipod yet? I remember seeing a pic of a .30-30 nef with the choate stock set and a bipod installed then the Ultra Varmint FLuted has a bipod attachment point.

If the forend were fully bedded, it might work great....it might work fine just the way it is, ya won't know until you try it, then go from there.....In general NEF/H&R single shots don't like bipods but there are always exceptions since each rifle is different. Even the Choate Ultra stock doesn't work well in it's original configuration with a bipod, there are several of us working on that issue.

How would i fully bed the barrel considering the forend is hollow, fill it with something then glass bed it with acraglass?

That's what I'd do or maybe fill it with silicone using paste wax as a release agent on the barrel.....but I'd shoot it first to see how it works without the bedding.

I shoot mine exclusively with a Harris bi-pod, and it shoots great. No problems.

NBC, what kinda groups do you get with the bipod? A recent poster at RFC stated that his shot great with the bipod, but he admitted that great to him was 1½" groups at 100yds, but most 17hmrs are capable of half that. He just never tried it without the bipod! :wink:

I get dime size groups at 100 with the occasional flier

That's probably my fault tough. But I shoot all my rifles with the pod. I even take it prairie dog shooting with great success. :grin:

That's good news, I have only tried a bipod on a couple of mine, the .223 Ultra does ok, but still shoots much better from a rest under the hinge more often than not. The new fluted Ultra 22-250 doesn't like that fancy bipod adapter either.....yet! Still workin on it.

Alright i took my .17 out with a few Hornady red tip V-max and a new box of Federal black-tipped V-max. At 50yrd the hornadys grouped just maybe a shade larger and just a little downward POI change. SO i went to 200yrds and tried the Federals and the "groups" were 5+". Tried my 5 remaining Hornadys and a nice 2" maybe larger (couldn't retrieve my targets) so my .17 dosen't like Federal V-max but does like Federal Speer HP and Hornady V-max.

I also took my 'new' Nylon 66 .22lr auto that was fun.

It doesn't seem to matter what I feed my rifle. It shoots about the same with anything. I took some Federal V-maxes for the first time out prairie dog shooting. I shot four in a row right out of the box. I have no idea how they group. But I do know they strike out to 150 yards and maybe further.

got a good lucky rifle me thinks. Just Hornady V-max and Federal Speer HP in mine
