I just picked up a used remington 7mag, adl with a synthetic stock, I am wondering if I would be making a big improvment if I replaced the factory stock with a bell&carlson drop in? overall the rifle is in great shape, I will call remington today with serial # to find how old it is.

Mine shot great with the cheap stock, but I couldn't stand the hollow, scratching sounds when hunting. I have found I want only wood from here on.

Handy, I cracked the wood BDL stock on a .223 when I bumped a tree on my 4 wheeler.. I ordered a Rem syn. stock but I was never happy with the it. I finally repaired the the wood stock and glass bedded the action. It now shoots better than when it was new. The Rem synthetics are as limber as some parts of my anatomy and the bedding compounds don't adhere to them very well. I would go with a good quality synthetic or a laminate if you want the best accuracy.

the syn stock will work, but you gotta sand/scrape out the forearm tip bumps, and sand and scrape the forearm inside edges t6o get clearance. and, you gotta bed it. bedding compound will stick but you have to drill little holes and otherwisr rough up the areas where you want it to adhere. the last six inches or so of that forearm are WAY whippy. unaltered, it'll slap the barrel and will put flyers on otherwise well-shooting rigs.

I secound the H.S. Precision i have a long action varmint for my rem 700. I once had a bell on a ruger and with the ones i had the H.S. was of much better quality, check cabelas for a price. Later Tanoose

I have a syn stock rem 7mm and did not get reasonable accuracy until I filled, filed, and bedded the stock. It shoots pretty well now with 139 gr bullets. I use it for whitetail deer and have not tried heavier bullets. I like the synthetic stock because it is resistant to moisture issues. It rains regularly when I am trying to hunt and you can't always keep everything dry.

The Rem stock is no good. As for B&C stocks get a McMillan or Brown. I would also suggest a Laminated stock. If you call Christiansen Arms you can get a new take-off factory for $70. I did and I like it.
