Without getting too involved in the history of Kimber of Oregon, before moving to the US from Australia, the owner contracted out small caliber rifles for Winchester before they dropped them from their lineup. Setting up in the States, he supplied a lot of little sized down rifles that had a distinct resemblance to Winchesters, for chamberings that the big companies were no longer supplying, and thru ingenious marketing techniques, was welcomed with huge success, until...
He got swamped in legalities, and was forced to stop production, returning later with his own modifications for the 1911. He was able to continue the rifle line, but in my opinion, they are hardly worth the extremely high price he gets for them. It's really all in the eye of the beholder.
My suggestion is to meter your new wealth and spread it around to other companies that ask a reasonable price for the same precision in machining. Variety after all, is the spice of life.
The other option is to spend it all on a custom rifle, but there are better products than the Kimber.
