V-Max vs V-Shok
« on: August 26, 2005, 03:55:49 PM »
Had a chance to shoot a few rounds through y .17 hmr today. Had Hornady V-max and Federal V-Shok. Better, more consistant groups with the Hornady. Just before leaving I shot a two liter soda bottle filled with water with each round. The Federal had a clean entrance and exit hole, bullet not recovered. The Hornady had a fairly clean entrance hole with no exit hole. Bullet fragments settled in bottom of bottle along with red tip. Shots were from about 60 yards. Was really surprised there was no exit with the Hornady.

Federal has 2 loads in the V-shok ammo, the Vmax black tip and the TNT/Speer hollow point, were you using the hollow point? I find the HP to be less explosive than the Vmax on ground squirrels and a cross section view of the 2 will show why....

I was shooting the hollow point Federal. The Hornady groups better, but the Federal is not far behind. My gun shop has a limited selection. Have a trip to Tennessee this week and will stop by Benton's there if I have time. They carry it all.

If you can get the Federal Vmax, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised...
