New [to me] Howa 1500
« on: August 23, 2005, 02:15:00 PM »
I just bought a 1yr old Howa 1500 .308 with the thumbhole stock. The stock is what did it for me!! 8)   Love that thumbhole.
What is the lowdown on tha HOWA from you guys that own and shoot them??  I know it needs a good cleaning and all, but what do you that own the howa, esp in 308, think of these rifles??

All good.   I bought  a .270 that came out of the box shooting.   Very inexpensive with a flimsy stock, but a really good hunting rifle.

Ive had one in 223 for a couple yrs now, and it has become one of my favorite go to truck rifles here on the farm when checking cattle and dispatching coyotes :D    JIM

Howa Rifles

I won a Howa 1500 sporter, in .300 WSM, at the local DU banquet
a few years ago.  This was my first exposure to Howa.  I have a
load, using Barnes XBT XLC 165 gr. bullets, that averages .75 MOA,
with the best group at .6 MOA.  I was pleasantly surprised at this
rifle's accuracy.  The only complaint I have with it, is the bolt doesn't
lock, when the gun is on SAFE.  I understand that this has been
changed in the newest version of the Howa 1500.  With that "fixed",
I would not pass up a good deal on another Howa.

I'm looking at a Howa myself.  Does the Howa have controlled feed?

Mine is a push feed, but you can always check their website, and
see if they make a CRF.
