Take a look at the 204 Ruger round

I have a Sako rifle in the the 17 Remington round and a Ruger 77 Target rifle in the Ruger 204 round.  The  17 cal rifle need to have the bore cleaned after 20 or so rounds while I clean the 204 after 100 rounds. Every rifle barrel is different so you could get a 17 cal rifle that would require less cleaning - With any rifle you have to shoot it to know what it will do.

When I was huntin' 'yotes for the hides, several fellahs I knew used them. They swore that the standard Remington factory loads never left an exit hole.  8)

I had one for two years and worked on it for two summers trying to get it to shoot.  I ending up shooting 30 gr Berger bullets at a little over 3500 fps with groups right at 1 inch consistently.  I even installed a Shilen trigger.  That was as good as I could get it to shoot.  It is fairly breezy up here in Idaho and also in Montana where we go for dogs and gophers.  The wind really affected this rifle while I was at the rifle range trying to get this rifle to shoot.  I had to pick very calm days to work with it.  The rifle now now wears a Shilen barrel and chambered for the 221 Fireball.  It's now a real tac driver.  That's my feeling of the 17 Remington.

I have a CZ 527 in 17 Rem and it's a hammer! Then again, I've never had or heard of a CZ that wasn't.

Yes, you can spot your shots through your scope with it. I've found the 20 grain V-Max pretty much covers all the bases for coyotes down to gophers but like panhandle mentioned, the wind gets ahold of it pretty bad. I don't shoot gophers past 200 yards at the absolute most so it works for me well.

I shoot only moly so the horror stories of fouling and such haven't bitten me yet but they do need cleaning more often than most, moly or no.

I love mine! You need one.

I have a .17Rem. in a Remington 700BDL.  Yes it will shoot - whenever it damn well pleases!  I've shot as small a group as .248" (5 at 100yds.) only to follow it with groups of 1.3" and 1.5".  Believe me those 1" groups look huge with those small bullet holes.  It's an unbelieveable finicky rifle caliber, and it copper fouls something fierce.  It is nice being able to watch
your bullets strike home.  I just get fed up with its erratic behavior.  I've
spoken to others who seem to have the same problems.  Maybe a beefier varmint barrel and free floating the barrel would help.  I don't know, but you're starting to talk big bucks now.  Just one mans opinion .  Best wishes.

RIP Cal you are missed by many.
