Anyone here got one, and how do you like it? I've considered getting one later, but would like to hear what people do and do not like about this particular rifle.

If you're talking about the 550 with the "Hog Back" stock then I wouldn't own one. They have a notorious reputation for splitting stocks. The one I tried in .375 H&H split the stock while I was shooting it. Behind the action at the grip. Also I found the Hog Back stock let the stock slip down under my arm pit at every shot. Just thankful the rifle wasnt scoped. The 550 American someone else will have to comment on as I have never shot one. Lawdog

I can't comment on the .375, but I am in the process of getting accustomed to a 550 American in .458 Win.

So far I have only fired 350 grn. loads, and am working my way up in bullet and charge weights.

I am impressed so far in the ability of the rifle to be comfortable. I have had to adjust the trigger(easy to do), and will start glass bedding it this week. I would recommend this step strongly, as I have heard the stock splitting stories as well.

I suspect that the action will need some "slicking up", and the feeding will need a bit of attention, but I am still impressed with what you get for what you pay. Hard to get a magnum mauser with a drop box magazine, decent express sights, and adjustable trigger for this kind of money. By the way, mine will take six down in the magazine.

Hope that this input helps with your decision. If recoil is an issue for you with the .375, this rifle should be a pussy cat!

Thanks for the info, and no recoil isn't an issue for me. I have been considering moving to Alaska. I want something to hunt with and figured the .375 would do a good job.

I own a CZ 375 H&H with the "hogback" stock and I scoped it with a Leupold 3x9 vxI that wasn't being used at the time, I used CZ rings to secure it. I have fed it a steady diet of 71 grs IMR 4895, 250gr Sierra gamekings, Win Brass and Win Mag primers. My best guess is I have sent 250+ rounds though it with no problems what so ever. Glad to say I haven't had the experiance that Lawdog did. :grin:

I liked this rifle so much that I bought CZ 550 Amer in Win 270.

Next month I will begin loads development for Barnes 300 gr triple shocks. cause I got drawn for Elk and it has been rainy in Arizona this year and I am hoping to meet up with a big one. :-D

Bed any big bore you get....should not have to but you do, I had my cz .375 bedded no drama's. had my lott bedded and two extra cross bolts added as well.

I've got one of the hogback type and was pretty impressed with it. Haven't shot it much or shot it scoped, so after Lawdog's comments I will be getting some stock work done on it. To look at the shape you'd think it kicks hard but I thought it was pleasant to shoot, and this is my first big bore. When I shot mine with iron sights I could hold a 1 inch group at 50 yds. 270gr shot a little high but I was impressed with the grouping. I'll shoot it more after my current 1 year "safari" in the middle east is done.

I have a 550 American in .458 Lott and after hearing of Law dog's stock problem I got a McMillan stock ,that gave me peace of mind . it is a good rifle .I too adjusted the trigger and polished the rails to smooth the action . they should be ashamed of themself for selling a heavy magnum with that stock ,it is dangerous and I for one wonder why they have kept shipping them after knowing of the problem .I would have never bought mine if I knew I would have to buy a $350.00 dollar stock to replace a new stock on a new rifle . that said maybe the .375 H&H won't crack the stock like the .458 ,but every time you pull that trigger you have to think will it happen to me ? that would take all the pleasure out of shooting it ,and make me very uneasy. to have that in the back of your mind has go to affect you aim just a little add that to the fact that you will be useing it on big danderous game and it just didn't add up to a bargin for me after all .so good luck and good hunting . :shock: :shock:
