Left hand Winchester model 70 .375 H&H
« on: August 13, 2005, 02:54:23 AM »
Well after about two years of searching, I finally got a "Left hand" Model 70 Safari Express in 375H&H. At one time I gave up, and bought a left hand "Browning A-Bolt". Actually I had to get two 70's the first one came in with a horse shoe shaped black rust mark under the extractor. Ellot
Brothers and my dealer were excellent, and got me another.
The A bolt shot good, but it was too light and rattled my brain pan when I shot it. I worked up a load for it with 260 Gr Accubonds, and RL-15.
I've read some good things about the Barnes Triple shock bullets. What do you'all think?
Some day, I'm going to Africa. But in the mean time, I want to work up a reduced deer load for it. What do you'all recommend?
thanks
Jim

If you want a reduced deer load, try the Barnes 235 gr. X. Still a little heavy for deer but dead id dead.  :D

Jim

You will probably mess up less meat with you 375H&H than if you used a smaller caliber rifle. I've shot deer with big bore rifles and eat right up to the hole. The big ones goes through and the little ones blow a hole in the meat. Good luck :D   .......Joe,,,,,,,,,

Redhawk1 is correct except for the fact that Barnes dropped the 235 gr. X in favor of the 210 gr. X which is all Barnes offers in the .375 caliber X version(http://www.barnesbullets.com/prodx-bullet.php).  Too bad too as that 235 gr. was a hummer.  Maybe Barnes will bring out a 235 or 225 gr. TSX soon.  That would be a great deer bullet.  Lawdog
