I got my ER Shaw 358 a while back and so far it likes 200 grain bullets. Most of my work has been with H 322, I have a 8 lb can on hand. 200 grain Hornady bullets shoot groups of less than 1 inch. So far it does not like 180 grain Speers or 250 grain bullets. Does anyone have a load to share? I am going to start working with some of the IMR powders soon. By the way, the work Shaw did was beautiful, I am very happy with it. Shotgunner

.358 What? What cartridge did you chamber in .358? I had Shaw rebarrel a 1917 in Whelen Improved. I am very, very pleased. Have you tried 158 gr 357 bullets yet just for fun? I bet they would tear a yote up pretty good.

Mine is a Douglas barreled 98 Mauser action which also prefers the 200 gr. loadings. I've tried several loads but for best accuracy and power have settled on 52 gr. of W748 with the 200 gr. Hornady Spire Point and WLR primers. The load shoots about the same with the 200 gr. round nose but I quit using them due to them being a little too explosive. Accuracy is under an inch at 100 yds. with good consistancy from day to day. Its always inside a 3 inch circle at 200 yards. Let us know what you try.

I lucked out and found a .358 swaging die set. They shoot great from my 357 Max, 356 Winchester or my Whelen.

My 700 likes 200 grain bullets, Hornady, and either IMR 4198 or H322. It did not shoot well with IMR 3031, shots were strung up and down. I also notice that the point of impact changes from load to load. 180s, 200s and 250s all shoot to thier own spot and loads with the same bullet but different powders shoot apart from each other. The gun will hold it's point of impact with one load however. So far I have stuck to Hornady and Speer bullets but I am going to try something like a Partition bullet soon. I have had my best luck with AA2520 especially with the 250 grain bullet. What is the twist on your barrel? The 250's like a 1 in 12. If you've got a 1 in 14 I stay with the 225 and less.

My .358 BLR likes 51 grns WW748 with the 200 grn hornady sptz or round nose. this clocks about 2350 FPS. I hunt deer in the northeast and though I havn't shot a deer with this load yet I have taken deer with the .35 rem going a lot slower so it should work. .35 calibers are very underrated. Good luck

Although there aren't a whole bunch on manufactures that make big .358 bullets there are two that are fairly easy to come by. The first is the 280 grain Swift. This is a tough bullet but will still expand some at 358 Winchester velocities. Then there is the king the 310 grain Woodleigh. This is a penetrator that still expands quite well at 358 Winchester speeds.

In my BLR with a 20 inch tube I'm getting almost 2,100 fps using 43 grains of AA2520 with the 310 grain Woodleigh. This really does make the 358 Winchester a real big bear rifle.

Also I'm getting just shy of 2,400 with the 250 grain Hornady Spire Point using 48.0 grains of AA2520.

I so far haven't found a powder that compares with AA2520 when it comes to getting maximum energy out of the 358 Winchester. Just about everything else run 100 fps behind the AA2520 in this cartridge.

I dont know if this is the right place to ask this but I am considering getting a 243 adl rebarrelled to a 358 win. How is the recoil on this round?

Mine is a ten pound gun and it stil recoils worse than my 30-'06.

My 358 Win. shoots 158 grain Sierra JHC pistol bullets to one hole groups that measure .33 center to center. The velocity is 2507fps and they do explode on impact!
