practice makes perfect

put several rounds down the tube and practice. you have to have very good form to shoot tight groups. my 7-08 is scoped with burris 3x12. it'll shoot rem 120gr 1 1/2" @100 at best so far. some will go 3". my handloads are much more consistent. 5 shots less than 1 1/2" @100 best so far. for the tightest groups you'll need a scope. but if you want iron sights, more practice is what you'll need to tighten groups. position, hold and sight the gun the same way each time. also, gently keep squeezing the trigger harder till it goes off as a surprise, while still trying to maintain and hold the sight picture.

Russ,
Shooting a new type of a gun almost always comes with a learning curve.
What uses do you plan to use your new toy for?  Depending on the type of shooting planned may determine what is the best iron sight for you.  I'm not one qualified to comment on iron sights since I never use them with this kind of handgun.  As Kyode said, consistency is the key to good bag shooting.  Load development may also be part of the solution.  I used 40.0 grains of H-4985 with a 140 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip with great satisfaction and accuracy in a 14 inch 7mm-08.  Seating the bullet out to where it engages the lands "sometimes" helps in the accuracy department also.  You don't have to have a death grip to shoot accurately, but about the same grip you would use hold and use with a hammer.  I hope your next outing is a better one.

Try a different type of ammo. I have a Savage Striker that will not group 90 gr. Nosler Balisyic Tips.  I am lucky to hit the target 2 out of 3 times at 50 yards. 100 gr. Sierras are a nice .5 " group. Your barrel may not like what you are feeding it. Lone Hunter
