I know you had a lot of problems with your crossbow last year, but I was wondering if you're going to give it another try this year?

I'm about 2 months from my crossbow hunt for moose. I'm starting to get pretty anxious.

Me? Nope. I gave it to my oldest son Bob. He used it some last year but didn't get to hunt much due to his job. Dunno how it will work out for him this year. He is WAY over due with the review of it. I've mentioned it several times but guess I'm gonna hafta light a fire under him.

I gave up on it. I cannot cock it with my hands or the string cocking device. The crank cocking device they sent lasted exactly ONE cocking and broke. I have no further personal interest in messing with that particular crossbow. If I ever get another it won't be a Horton.

He was delayed in the review last year and missed most of bow season with it due to the factory recall on it.

Bill the guys in the know who are really into xbows either reccomend Excaliber Recurves or Ten Point Compounds. I have also seen this the crossbow reviews in the New Peterson's Crossbow magazine that Excaliber and Ten point were rated in the top 10 right at the top. I cannot afford either at the time and will keep on with my Barnett's but those two brands really look well made and I know the crank on a Ten Point works well I know a guy who has one. I am supprised that Horton did not bend over backwards and kiss your behind if they knew you would be rating them on a web sight. The internet has gone a long ways in keeping companies honest expecially if you mention that you freqent these kind of sites. If it would have been me I would have replaced that crank pronto. Do not give up as there are folks who are severly handicapped and can shoot xbows so it is possible. Jim

Too bad your experience was so negative. I've really liked my three crossbows - including my older Horton. Just don't give up on crossbows entirely. They are usually the best choice for archery hunters with arthritis (myself included).

In my archery moose hunting group, four of us are retired, and three use crossbows. In all, 4 of five used them.

BTW: We have both bull and cow tags in camp this year, so if its within range, we can shoot.

I now am able to cock my crossbow, but when I started out I took a six foot piece of webbing and looped it on one side of the serving, then the other and put a slip knot to tie up the two pieces of webbing and wrapped both ends around the back of my neck, then grabbed with both hands and lifted with my neck and it cocks easy as pie.
