Wheel diameter question
« on: July 23, 2005, 07:55:20 PM »
I know Im going to be a pain in the Bu-- since this is Basicly the third time I asked this question.  But Im taking a crack at building a Feild micro cannon. Barrel length is 3 1/2 inches, My question is what would be the must appropiate diameter wheels my choices are 2 , 2 1/2 or 3 inches or larger?
                                                                Thanx in advance

Full size Napoleon, Parrot and wrought iron rifle carriage wheels were/are 57" in diameter; mountain howitzer wheels were/are 38" in diameter. Assuming your barrel is more or less a cannon (versus howitzer) barrel, 3.5" is to 72" as 2.77" is to 57".  Or to use 3" wheels as 57" wheels, the barrel should be 3.75" long.

The barrel is a Mountain Howitzer configeration maybe the 2 1/2 inch wheels?. Its just that I don't want the wheels look funky by being to small or to large.  It doesn't need to be true to scale the barrel isn't just look realistic.

3.5 is to 37 (length of mountain howitzer barrel) as 3.6 is to 38 (diameter of mountain howitzer wheel.)
