winchester model 70 pre 64 stock

I would like to a different stock on my Winchester standard pre 64 257 Roberts for hunting, so the original stock will not get banged up. My question is what are the major differents in the pre 64 stocks & the post 64 other than the barrel band around the rear sight? Can a modern featherweight stock be made to fit? If so what changes do I need to make?
