I have a Uberti hiwall in 45-70 and am wondering which brass works the best? I have Remington and Winchester, and a posibility is Starline. But I don't have a lot of eigther and am wondering which to stock up on so that I use only one brand?

So what do you use and why? Does it make a differance?

Will 52100
Midway carries Winchester, Remington and Federal cases. They sometime offer a good sale on them.
Winchester is thinner and has more case capacity, followed by Remington, the Federal have the thickest case and least case capacity.
A lot of people prefer the Winchester when using black powder because of the larger capacity.

startline is also used by some shooters.. the main thing is to buy enough to separte it into groups that weigh the same, and still have enough for a match or hunting season etc.. give buffalow arms a call and see what they have to say.. they have bp stuff and are interested in giving you what you need for a reasonable price.. dave..

Thanks, I like the Winchester, but does it realy make that big a differance weighting the cases? I'll have to weight them tomorrow and see what differances I come up with.

As long as you use the same brand of case it probably won't make a big difference once you have worked up a load.
If you mix brands of cases you will notice a difference, especially if you are trying to do serious target shooting such as in competetion.
If you buy your cases in bulk just clean up and uniform the flash holes, trim them all to the same length, and sort them by your weight criteria. Use the cases that are too light or too heavy for fouling shots.
If you buy a different brand of case then you are back to square one. You will probably have to work up a new load to get the most from that brand of case.

Thanks, I don't forsee myself ever getting deep into long range competition, but I don't want to make a fool of myself eigther! I'll play around with what the Winchester and see how it does.
