Sorry I haven't gotten more threads started, I've been taking advantage of some nicer weather here in Iowa and catching bluegills and crappies. Haven't had much time to hunt upland birds, that and nothing is open right now. I'm messing with my new baby, a .454 Casull barrel for my TC Encore, it's occupying quite a bit of my free time as well. Let us know what you do during the offseason!

Trap shooting to keep me sharp! Also been doing some reloading for my various T/C barrels. And then there is always the occasional

yote hunt.

Sounds a little like my offseason MF, but I don't shoot a lot of trap during it, but I load for the rifles and TC and call the yotes and catch the fish through the hardwater.

I don't think there really is an off season. There is varmint hunting. Then there is crow hunting . Then there is turkey hunting. You mix in some trap or sporting clays shooting and bird dog training during the summer. There is also rifle shooting ,working up loads,and a little fishing. You have to plan big game trips also. Before you know it you're grouse hunting. :bye:

I'm like the rest of the guys there really is no off season for me. I'm scouting turkey for the spring hunt. As soon as the snow quits flying and the ground drys up a little I'm training & running GSP's 3-5 days a week getting ready for field trials in August and the opening of bird season in Oct. & Nov..

Rabbits are in season year round here, so if all else fails..... Crow is open now on weekends, and it's time to start the summer archery practice. Sure is hot though!

I'll go fishing in the off season which in Michigan is April 15 - July 15 when you can't train dogs in the field or woods. I'll also use that time to do any big project around the house. This year it is putting up a garage. I'm going 28'X40' stud wall construction. I'll construct a kennel room using the back 8' of the garage. Install a strip of electric baseboard heat in there to keep the temp. at 35 degrees during the dead of winter. 4'X7' indoor kennels with dog boxes, and 7'X15' outdoor kennel runs off the back.

In the off season, I make custom longbows, custom bamboo fly rods, train my hunting dogs, ride the four legged lawn mowers ( horses) and fish. Wait, I forgot, somewhere in there I spend time with my wife hehe. I also do a lot of pontificating upon where I will be able to hunt next fall as everyone else breeds like hell and new housing developements eat up our hunting lands.

I try to coax well meaning folks from Iowa to go pararie dog hunting? How are you doing. How are you doing? Are you any closer to going Prarie dog hunting this summer? Still have a huge intrest? Been looking at maybe south dakota, seems like a long drive but I hear its worth it.

When I have quit hunting grouse and woodcock for the year winter is here and I spend it reloading shotshells and my centerfire ammo for woodchuck hunting. Also I read hunting books that I have bought the previous summer and saved to read in the winter. Normally during the spring and summer I trout fish, bass fish, hunt woodchucks, shoot clay birds, take my Brit for romps and shoot about 2500 rounds of 22 rimfire ammo.
