My wife an I just got back from a nice hunt. She scored on a full curl-plus Barbarosa ram, with her maple & hickory board longbow, that I made for her. It was her first bowhunting kill. I took a nice hog for the freezer in the 200 lb range. I was using my maple & hickory longbow. I had made both bows for us. Thanks for looking, JeffG

congrats!......thats awesome. i certainly wish i was skilled enough to make a bow. id have no idea where to even start. its satisfying enough to shoot game with a traditional bow alone.....i cant even imagine how satisfying it must be to shoot game with a traditional bow you made yourself....good going.

Very, very, nice. You both must feel quite a sense of accomplishment. Nothing like taking game with something you made with your own two hands. I like the skins on your bow, and your quivers are both nice as well. Better yet that she shares your love of hunting.

It was pretty much beyond me how to make a bow, too. The board bows are the way to start, take a look at Ferret's Page and go from there. Maple and hickory are great woods, and available at planing mills.

I just rolled up my sleeves and got to work, (long winters) and it turned out pretty good!
Try these sites, for advise, but don't get lost,

WOW!
Congrats to both of you. What a first kill.
You are right about the board bows. Not enough is said about them in my opinion cause they can be easy to make and very nice shooting too. made about 2 doz of them myself. Lots of fun to shoot something you made like that yourself.
Yours are nice looking too.

What a wonderful way to make a woman happy! :-)
You have my admiration! I have shot Trad for many years....left recently due to a shoulder injury and trying to make a come back.
Where do you live? I live in the U.P....Iron Mountain.
