Okay, my note to self for the day is. Dont shoot striped skunk, they stink.  :?

Here in Tenn. you can hunt striped skunk all year long, with no bag limit.

Well, over the past few weeks I have had trouble with a few skunks getting into my trash and, one of them sprayed my cat, plus they are the main carrier of rabies in the USA right now.

Well, I have had my eye on this one now for about 5 days, but every time I see the damn thing I do not have a firearm on me. Anyway tonight I was looking out my back door for my cat, and there it was. The skunk that makes my cat look small.  :-D

I had a ready rifle in my bedroom, so I grabed it and headed for the door. As I rounded my house the nosie I was making was covered by the sound of my air running. I was able to get about 30 yards from it and I took the shot. I was using CCI stingers. It dropped it like a rock, it never moved. Plus the round did not come out, I could see where it was pushing the skin on the other side, but did not go though. I really love the CCI stingers. They have a fast FPS and the HP works nice for a .22LR.

BBBBBBBBBBBBBUUUUUUUUUTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man did it smell bad. Call me a girl, but I barfed every where in my backyard to my bathroom. I have shot tons of small game, but this is my first and more then likely last skunk. Its funny now, but it was not when I was dry heaving in my bath tub.  :)  :)  :)  :)

I did manage to get a pic though, here you go.....

                        Dave.

The trick to shooting skunks is to break their back or neck.  The “trigger mechanism” for the spray is the tail.  If they canÂ’t lift their tail they canÂ’t spray.  NO JOKE.  I have killed hundreds this way and havenÂ’t gotten sprayed yet.  By the way that is how you hold a live skunk is by folding the tail under the animal so they canÂ’t spray.  Lawdog

It wasn't fun,but I shot them in the head, rushed over to them with latex gloves on,put them in a plastic grocery bag and took them to another location.
There was very little evidence of them after a couple of hours,so I guess I got lucky.Lawdog has a good idea, shoot them in the spine or neck.
