WEATHERBY/WINCHESTER/REMINGTON

I OWN 2 REMINGTON 700 BDLs IN 30.06 AND LAST YEAR BOUGHT A MARK V WEATHERBY IN 30.06. THE MARK V IS PURE JOY TO SHOOT, BUT TOO PRETTY TO USE IN THE TERRAIN AND CONDITIONS THAT I HUNT IN. THE REMINGTONS HAVE FILLED MY TAGS FOR YEARS ON END, SO AS TO ACCURACY IT'S A TOSS UP TO ME. IF YOU GOT THE DOUGH, GET THE BEST THAT YOU CAN. ALL THREE MAKES HAVE GOOD TRACK RECORDS,  I DON'T BELIEVE YOU COULD GO WRONG EITHER WAY. 1 1/2 INCH OR 4 INCH GROUPINGS DON'T MUCH MATTER IF YOU PUT THE SHOT IN THE KILL ZONE. FACTORY GUARANTEES DON'T PUT MEAT ON THE TABLE.
GOD BLESS AMERICA AND MAY GOD HELP CALIFORNIA

I've been a Remington fan for many years now, but less so in recent years.  My last 3 models, 2 700BDLs and a 700VLS have required glass bedding the actions, floating the barrels and trigger adjustments.  We're looking at an extra $200. here for each rifle.  I personally think this is ridiculous.  It's almost like we're buying a kit that we have to finish.  The rifles do respond to this treatment, and all three shoot much more accurately now, but should the buyer have to shell out this extra money to get the same degree of accuracy he was getting out of the box in the '80s?  Maybe Remington would do better to hire more quality control technicians and gunsmiths and fewer lawyers.  It's really becoming a sore point.  Best wishes.

You all should really give the new Stevens 200 a shot.....they are really excellent rifles for hunting and for $262 you can't go wrong.... :D

Cal,
Just curious...what calibers were they in and what kind of accuracy did you expect/get, out-of-the-box?  I've bought 2 700 BDL's in the last year and they both shoot 1 M.O.A. out of the box.  All I did was spend about 15 minutes each on the adjustable triggers?  That makes me happy, but I don't expect bench-rest accuracy in a hunting rifle.  Just curious how yours performed without any work on them?

All the Remington's I have shot have reasonable out of the box performance, especially for hunting purposes.  Adjust the tight-a@$ lawyer that comes with it and they are more than reasonable.

I have a WBY super varmint master in a 22-250. It is very accurate, i haven't shot it a whole lot but fired a couple shots out to the end of my range(320 yrds) and they were less than an inch apart. at 100yrds everything is pretty much touching.
