Tikka Varmint or Tikka Lite in .223?

About 7 ounce difference, but the Varmint has the heavy barrel.  Mostly for target shooting at the range and varmint/groundhog hunting.

Will I hurt myself by getting the Lite if I shoot a lot in one sitting?

From a .223?  I surely hope not. :)

The difference is not just the weight, but also the stock, which is wider in the Varmint series.

If you plan on walking about, then I'd say go with the lite.  If not, then get the Varmint.

A .223 does not generate as much heat as a .22-250 or other larger cartridges.  However, depending on the amount of shots you take and the outside temperature, a thinner barrel will heat faster than a heavier barrel.  If you will be shooting 5 shots within 2 minutes at 80 degrees and let it cool for a good 10 to 15 minutes, then I don't think that the T3 lite barrel will be a problem.  If you will shoot more than that in a relatively short or shorter time, then the varmint with the heavier barrel would be a  better choice.

Thanks, Zachary - I may end up going with the Varmint then - an extra 10 ounces won't kill me, and I like the stock a lot better on the Varmint.  Now, if I could just scrape up the money for a Sako Quad - WOW!

in your first post you said 7 ounces.

don't know where you're getting your figures, but Tikka's site list the Lite at 6&3/16lbs,  and the Varmint at 8lbs.

a difference of 1&3/4lb.

From their site:

Tikka T3 Varmint Stainless Steel  308 Win  6 lb 10 oz

T3 Lite Stainless 308 Win   6 lb 3 oz

fwiw, this file from their site says 8lbs.

maybe were looking at different files.

but think about it, wouldn't  the difference between a 'lite' model, and a 'heavy-barreld ' model(longer, also),  be more than 7oz.

Strange - when you go on to the Beretta site and click on RIFLES and then go through the various TIKKA rifles, it shows the weights I posted.  Very odd.
