browning over under belgian
« on: May 13, 2005, 04:29:50 AM »
i have one, dad got it at an auction quite awhile ago.  im curious as to exactly what it is.

top barrel is mod, bottom is improved it has lots of scrollwork from the serial # i found it was made in 1953.  has a picture of "mr browing" on the bottom.  its got nickle finish reciever....has a trap pad added (im sure that aint original equipment)  blued vent ribbed barrel...only stuff it says is browning 12/70 2 3/4"..etc...no other model # info on it..it does say made in belgium.

any ideas on exact model?  or value?  ive heard the term dianna thrown around regarding it.

Perhaps a Diana but if you could post a photo of the sides of the receiver it would help us to help you identify it.

I would have to guess that it's a Pigeon Grade Superposed. The Diana Grades were deeply engraved with game scenes and oak leaf borders  with the receiver being a dark gray as opposed to the nickle like color of the Pigeon. The Diana has some blue on the receiver top unlike the Pigeon being all plated.

ill try n get a picture up.  but im guessing you are right about the pidgeon grade superposed.  a guy from my local rod n gun said well its a superposed, but im not sure enough bout the models within the superposed family.

is it something i oughta refinish?  the blueing is great, but the stock is well worn.  would that decrease any value?  i dont really use it cuz for birds i use my win. super x.  but it is a pretty gun.  and i have shot it a bit....it shoots nice and still patterns well for a mod and improved.  i was thinking of trying to get the original stock pad for it cuz i dont like the adjustable trap pad its got.

If it's a Morgan pad, chances are it was cut to fit the base of the pad. It wouldn't hurt the value by having it professionally refinished but contact Browning to see if you can get it restocked. In very good condition your gun would be worth $1,500 to $1,800.
