« on: May 12, 2005, 05:03:01 AM »
Got my rifle ordered yesterday should be in next Wednesday.

I'm cutting it close on this one.

Finally ordered a SB2-833 ( .223Rem. 24" Bull barrel)
I'll only have 15 days to find the sweet spot and load 500 rounds for it.

I'll finish on the .204 Monday if all goes well. Had to order 600 bullets for it today along with 500 .224 bullets.

Still working on my shooting bench (well kind of haven't really started yet) need some welding done to it.

Go my shooting rest in the mail yesterday.

Have to make a powder/primer run tommarow.

Still need to load shotgun shells tommarow, I have big sporting clays shoot this weekend.

So many things going on I'm chasing my tail like a crazed dog.

Anyone else going to be cutting it close on getting everything done on time?

Man I'm so far behind I almost think I'm ahead.

I've shot both of the .223 rifles I'll be bringing and know both like a couple of old loads I had laying around. I guess I'll just go with those as I really just don't have time to find more accurate ones. I need to lighten the trigger pull on one of them tho. The .17 HMR still hasn't been sighted in and I need to order more Burris Signature offset inserts as the 10s I have just ain't gonna get it there.

I started to trim some brass I got for this trip this morning but the sizer the guy used sure must have been a tight one. So tight in fact I can barely force the pilot on my trimmer in the case mouth. Just too much work and all of them are gonna need trimming so I've scrapped the idea of using them now.

I did locate a stock of my LC92 cases which I dearly love and began loading them up. I'm gonna order 500 new RP cases in addition to them. Will be loading up both 40 and 50 grain Nosler BTs and Hornady V-Max bullets over Varget for the 50s and H335 for the 40s. Dunno if time's gonna run out before I get it all done or not.

Yep.  We've got a range out at the place where we'll be meeting in the evenings.  It's only a hundred yard range, but it'll get you zeroed.

At least every day it fells better, so I am still planing on making it.  At least I can put my friend Jimmy driving and I can lay back. 8)

As I'm typing this drinking a beer(done reloading for the day) thinking that its been a long day.

I've been all over town tracking down the last of my goodies.

I won't have powder until next Wednesday  there was only 2lbs of H335 in town that was under $21.00 lbs. So I have to wait until my order comes in (just don't feal like a road trip of 80 miles to my supplier) Wednesday I got 8lbs of H335 on the way that might get me threw this hunt. And at $14.25 lbs. it's worth the wait.

Good thing is the rest of my bullets showed up today while I gone.

It's bound to get better soon or later.

No fair, you guys are cheating. IT's too dang early for a good procrastinator like me to be even close to ready. I have at least loaded up about 100 rounds of ammo so far. I have some more cases trimmed but ran out of juice in the cordless screw driver that provides power so had to charge it back up. I sized a bunch of cases today and ordered 500 more new ones since those dang LC87 ones are not gonna be easily loaded in the time I have left. They better NOT need much prep when they get here or I'll not have my ammo loaded.

I did locate a shade that looks good and ordered it from Cabela's. It's 12'x12' and weights less than 9 pounds. Looks to be easy and fast to set up for shade over me as I shoot and rest.

Still haven't figured out a bench yet. I'm too dang fat and old and stiff to lay down to shoot like Wes says he does. When I get down I can't get back up without help. So iffen ya'll hear someone say "help I've fallen and I can't get up" you'll know it's me.  :)

I got the extra Burris Signature offset inserts on order so I should be able to sight in the dang POS Savage .17HMR rifle. It's the first and last Savage I'll ever own and won't own it long after I return no matter how accurately it might shoot. Iffen anyone wants a bargain on it and whatever ammo I don't shoot up at the event just let me know. I'd just as soon not even bring it home. Maybe I shouldn't got a handi instead.

I got one of the 17HMR handi-rifles but don't even think I'm bringing it.....mostly going to shoot the .225 Winchester and the 223 Handi....thinkin of maybe takin my long barrel 22 pistol for Mitchels lil open sight shoot out...thats it for me...( for right now anyway.. )

Man,  I'm still not even close to being ready.
Let's see, where do I start. OK, been shopping for a large mowing tractor to do my place and two lots I have in town. Well the price range is $10,000 to $12,000 for the tractor. But nobody has what I want. Sold my late fathers tractor last weekend and sold my Murrey riding mower also. The wife is really mad, she has been wanting a chain link fence in the back to let the dogs out and don't have to worry about them getting run over. I can't get nobody out here in the last two months to put a fence in because it is a small job. Gotta get a gun safe before I go out west, looked one time then put it on the back burner. Got a new FA in 41 mag, had to order a smaller front sight for it because I had the orginal sight up so high it looked humped back. Waiting on more Win. white box stuff to come in for the 223. That's been back ordered. I don't know when I'll get caught up.  :?

Spent the early cool part of the day today doing some loading chores. No that don't mean making ammo. I trimmed the last of my LC92 cases and they are now all ready to load. I sized a bunch of Federal cases I found. Can't recall who I got them from but they were deprimed but apparently not sized as bullets just fell into the case mouths. I tried neck sizing them but they wouldn't fit into either rifle NS only so all will need FL sizing. The bad part is they all seem to need trimming too. Dang I can't catch a break on trimming cases. I also located a large stash of LC90 and a slightly smaller stash of LC83 cases. Didn't check to see if they will need to be trimmed but if so they aren't gonna be any help as I'm about tired out on trimming cases. I'll just wait on the 500 new WW cases if they need trimming I guess.

I then went up to my range to do a little dirt work. We've been working up there with a backhoe and I need to do a bit of smoothing and leveling. But it rained hard last night and it was way too wet to do anything. So I just spread some grass seed and wheat straw and called it good for now. Got my shooting bench back in place. Matt knocked it out of place with the backhoe bucket while digging out a couple of big stumps. The good part is I now have that area about ready to pour a pad for a covered firing line which I might get to this year.

I'm slowing getting it together and I'm sure I'll have plenty of ammo when the time comes.

Well...I'm not shooting prone :x .....I hate Chiggers, snakes and sweaty mud on my elbows so will be bringing my shooting bench...not really stable as I'd like but I know I can hose down the ankles with OFF and not have to fight chigger bites while sweating in the heat the next day.... There will be a sun shade over that bench too!! ( to keep the ice in the ice chest holding the Gator-aid from meltin too quick)

The only thing that would move me 6' straight up is a stick of dynamite.    My left leg is useless in helping me get up and the right one is barely strong enough to do the job and usually can't. So I have to have help from my arms pulling or pushing me to rise at all once down. At times the legs just cannot do it without pulling or pushing help. Snakes don't change it just make the need more urgent but don't add to my physical abilities.

I too will have bench and shade and something cold to drink whether I do any shooting or not. :)

I'm thinking about the 82  to 287 route myself, but will probably take 35 into Ok city and hit I 40 and on out there. I'll leave Fri. morn. and should make it in about 7 1/2 to 8 hrs. pulling my trailer. Its only about 450 miles from Durant. So if you guys spot a Dodge dually pulling a 34' cargocamper trailer with a old man driving it and another guy with a terrified look on his face, its probably Liktohunt and me.  Digger

Well things just hit the fan. My H 335 is back ordered until next Wednesday.
I have enough powder now to finish load development.
So I guess Ill be reloading over Memorial weekend.

On the good side the H&R is a keeper.
Shot a really good group with the Hornady bullet the Remington bullet needs a little work.

First load :
Federal Brass
Win. SR
H-335 25.0gr.
Rem. 55gr. PSP
Group 1.137" 3 shot group.

Second load:
Federal Brass
Win. SR
H-335 25.0gr.
Hornady 55gr. SX
Group .547" 3 shot group.

But yet another down fall is the Federal brass is gone.
I'm sick of fighting military crimp on the primer pockets.
I ordered 500 Winchester brass from MidwayUSA.

I'll be at the range this weekend working on loads with the new brass.

Things are going to get better right?

Will boys I am still laid up with a bum leg, finely after 6 doctors and 4 weeks off from work they figured out  I have a damaged nerve. They are going to give me a maject shote monday that is sopped to take care of the problem. So far I still plane on coming. Started talking about a P.D. shoot 3yrs ago then this came up, if any way possible I don't want this to pass by. My buddy Jimmy said with enough pills in me he would drive out put me at a shooting bench and even put a gun in my hands, but may not give me any ammo. ain't that a friend.   This is the first time in 4 wks I have been able to set this long even to type.  :-)
