 I don't know if this counts as bird hunting but a couple friends andI went crow hunting and had a good time. It's about the only thing open here. :gulp:

Well, you're upland and they were birds, so I think it counts, even if I've shot my majority of crows with a .243 from a long ways away!  Hope you had fun, crows are good entertainment and practice in the off season, just don't catch yourself eating them!

My daughter and I enjoy crow hunting. You can pick 'em off with a .22, or try to find a flight path with a shotgun. Besides, except for rabbits, it's the only thing open right now!

Calling in crows to the shotgun is one of my favorite past times. Best day I ever had on my own was 45 crows called in and killed in one day. About two weeks later my cousin and me went back again to same general area and called in and shot 101. We only stopped because we ran out of shells. Crows were still coming in just as good as on the first stop of the morning which by the way was 10 dead. That entire spring was like that. Every time we went we killed them en masse. Never had another year like that one before or since.

Our method is to head for farming country and move from spot to spot. If we see crows and can find a place nearby we stop and call. We also have favorite stopping spots from times past we always give a try. Lots of fun.

I'll crow hunt using decoys and calling to work a young Lab on holding steay to shot and retrieve a real bird, or to keep an older Lab sharp during the off season.  Hunting them this way is similar to what the Lab is going to experience when waterfowl hunting.
