Mossberg ATR 100
« on: May 09, 2005, 02:56:01 PM »
Bought one last fall and never took the opportunity to really get some good range time until today.  Its a .30-06 with a Tasco Gold Antler 3X9X40 and Weaver Quad Four rings.  Using cheapo PMP and Hot Shot 180 gr SP at $5.99 per box from Dunhams I was able to get it to print a best 3 shot group at just over an inch.  Two shots were touching.  Was able to get all three through the bull although the third split the ring.  The worse groups were no more than two inches and were probably my fault.  I let it cool for about five minutes between each shot and alternated with the ammo.  I have less than $300.00 in the entire set-up, including the ammo!  Keeping my fingers crossed with the scope, however.

Another member has this same gun but with a Mueller scope.  His gun also groups around an inch with handloads, but about 2 with certain factory loads.  If you found factory ammo that shoots MOA, then that's great.

As far as the Tasco scope is concerned, I'll cross my fingers for 'ya too - no telling how long (or short) a Tasco will last.

I have a set of twin boys and I bought one son a Win Model 70 in 270 WSM and my other son a mossberg ATR 100 in 30-06. The one twin had saved some money so I chiped in to help with the model 70.  The other didnt have any money so I bought  the mossberg ATR 100. Anyway The mossberg is a shooter!  It shoots 1" groups with reloads. I am going to buy one for myself in .270  :-)

Just curious as to what manufacture makes the ATR-100 for Mossburg?

The new Mossberg ATR Rifle is made in the USA in Texas by the same people who manufacture the maverick shotgun!!!!!!  Awesome??  I have only heard great things about this exceiting new rifle and shooting 1" and under seems to be the norm for it.                            BigBill

Sounds like it's a shooter, but how's the quality of the action and what weight is the factory trigger actually set at (not advertised at)?
