Has any one used the Heavi Shot for coyotes and if so what size choke did you use?

Two weeks ago I was hunting turkey when from some where a coyote showed up wanting to taste my decoys.  What he tasted instead was two loads of #4, Heavi shot.  The first shot broke both front legs and for all practical purposes put him out of the game but I didn't take any chance and put another shell into him.  Distance was a bit over 30 yards, and he never knew I was there.  I was using 3 in, 12 ga, #4's Heavi shot from 28 inch barrels on a Ruger Red Label with Tru Lock turkey chokes.  I would not normally hunt coyotes with a 12 ga, but on my property, in my cow  pasture they run the risk of getting shot with what ever I have available at the time.

It is good to see that they performed well. I believe i first heard about them in Rifle magazine I think. I believe thay said that they were suppose to have a bit longer range than standard loads.

In all honesty, I have only been able to tell the difference between Heavi shot and Winchester Supremes in 20 ga.  My hunting partners are all females and they do not like getting kicked around by the big twelves.  So they use 20 ga Remington 1100's in youth models.  With Heavi shot 2 3/4 inch shells, #6 they have consistently dumped turkey at 40 + yards.  In fact I do the calling and have "@itched" at them so much for taking the long shots that I feel bad when the Tom is knocked over and just kicks a bit.  I bought each a range finder and force them to promise me not to take a long shots but, teenage grand daughters and spouses over 50 don't pay much attention to old guys.
With the 12 ga I have never tried a shot over 55 yards with Heavi shot but have with 2 oz, #4 Winchester Turkeys went down with no problem and I would expect the Heavi shot to do the same or better.

There is a special load of Hevi-Shot for sale in Cabela's.  They are loaded with "T" sized shot.  I think they were 3" but I'm not sure.  They market them for coyotes.  That is what I would use with a modified or light modified choke.
