9.5" .44 mag Ruger Super Redhawk
« on: May 05, 2005, 12:34:57 PM »
I picked up a Ruger SRH .44mag with a 9.5" barrel this passed winter.  I put hogue rubber grips on due the shape fitting my hands better than the factor one.  Currently I have a North Star 2-7X scout scope mounted on the Ruger that will go on my marlin .357mag once I pick up a scout mount and new sights for it XS likely.  I was thinking of adding a electric scope like the millet offering and recomedations.

My question how to carry this hand cannon for PA deer hunting, should I carry it in a syn holster across my chest or what.  I have to also pick up a case for it now since it is to big for the original case, I was thinking of the metal tool case at Home depot.

How is that North Star holding up for you?  As for a case, you can find a good plastic pistol case for around $10-15 at a local sporting goods store.

As for the holster, I would not rule out PISTOL PACKAGING. Maple Plain MN. They will make a heavy leatherholster lined specificaly for your gun. www.pistolpackaging.com I have had good luck with them.
They offer good equipment and a custom fit for short dollars. Most important it won't start fraying and falling apart after two hunting seasons.

I had Chance Shelton  Make one for me for my 9.5 inch SRH in .480 with a 2x Leupold He does great work and is reasonable. You can contact him at www.levergunleather.com.

:cb2: I had Lever make a holster for me, too, and it's the finest one in my collection. He does beautiful work.

Archblackmage,

I too use a SRH to hunt PA deer.  I have an old leather holster (Hunter brand) that I got many years ago for my Super 14" Contenders.  It also works for the SRH.  I have a leather string attached to the bottom of the holster that I tie around my leg so the holster stays in place when worn with a belt.
I have tried the cross draw or shoulder holsters, and they are crap as far as I am concerned.  I never did get mine adjusted properly!!!  Good-luck...BCB
