I haven't posted for a long while and its good to be back.

In previous posts I have been pretty frustrated with new Remington rifles the past 5 or 6 years. They have either had horrendous triggers, poor barrel/stock fit or just shot sub par.....and it could be just a string of bad luck :cry:

Well...I had loved Remingtons for many years and am glad to report a very positive recent experience. I had been eyeing a Remington BDL SS in the local gun shop for quite a while.
It has an engraved SS receiver, very nice adjustable trigger, 26" barrel with a factory muzzlebreak and R3 recoil pad. It is in 7MM STW cal. It is not a "new" rifle but unowned & unfired(I have the shipping box).

I couldn't resist any longer....grabbed it, put my Zeiss Conquest 3X9X40 on some Millets and headed for the range with a box of SuperX 150gr PPs...... Guess What? A few sight in shots and I pop the first three shot 100yd group into a 0.75 !!! A set of dies have been ordered already.

I'm happy to feel confidence in my old favorite gunmaker again. Sure wish I knew some history on this rifle...sure is a shooter...and BTW...Their brake sure is effective and non-invasive looking. The recoil very easy on the shoulder. :grin:

It lloks like my .280 Sako may have competition for honors on my upcoming Wyo Antelope hunt this fall. :sniper:

I own several Remingtons and, being that I am mostly a stainless-synthetic kinda guy, they are all BDL SS models.

All of my BDL SS rifles shoot MOA or better. I know that Remington no longer makes the BDL SS as they have replaced it with a new model, but the BDL SS rifles sure do shoot.

A 7mmSTW? Not a very popular cartridge, but if you have a bunch of boxed of ammo, especially those 150 grain PPs, then you should be good to go!

I will be reloading for this rifle Zachary....although I saw Remington Express 140gr bullets for $17.95 in the shop, not too bad... :wink:

Both of my favorite hunting calibers are not "popular". I cannot imagine anyone not falling completely in love with a .280 Remington....an extremely accurate, easy shooting caliber that stands toe to toe with a .270 WSM with less powder and pressure.....the .308 is my "short mag" equivalent to the venerable 30.06

Hmmm....now theres a marketing ploy to revive the .308!! :eek:

While I'm not particularly fond of muzzle breaks...this one is the same dia as the barrel and came factory installed....I'll live with that. This rifle is earmarked for western big game....replaced a .300 WSM that I couldn't get under 2.0".

BTW...The 7mm STW pushes a 175gr Partition at 3000fps....about the same as the .300 WSM

If you reload, then you have nothing to worry about. I don't reload (yet), and probably will not be able to (because of time) so I unfortunately have to consider the popularity of a cartridge when I buy it.

I have a 7mm Ultra Mag and its popularity (as well as all the Ultra Mags) has dropped noticeably in the last year).
