An outfit called Power Customs, Inc (www.powercustoms.com) makes gizmo called a "free spin pawl" to allow the rotation of the cylinder in either direction for easier reloading. For about $35 I'm think'n about having one put in my Vaguero. Has anybody here ever used this device and if so, what was your experience with it? Did it work as advertised?

I put one on a single six. It works well. It took a little fitting with a file as described in the instructions & the instructions are a little confusing, but it wasn't hard to do.
Rugerforum.com has some info on turning the existing pawl into a free spin. I messed mine up that's why I bought the powers, but others seem to be able to do it.

Power Customs is a very good custom shop. I have a Ruger Redhawk that had work done by them. No free spin pawl used though. But I have heard several people that got them and they worked great.

I fitted one to my ruger blackhawk and it worked just like it was supposed to , I then found I did NOT like it and took it out and sold it .

:cb2: I bought three, had one installed, and sent the other two back. It works fine, spins very freely, but I miss the clicks. When you spin the cylinder it is just supposed to click. Just ain't natural not to. Sure it might save a little time, but I figgered I just twernt in no big hurry anyway.

I've installed three of them so far, and found them drop dead simple to do.. Two of them were drop ins with no fitting required. The other one just needed to be stoned on the upper rear of the arm to get proper firing pin travel. If not stoned to fit the firing pin won't protrude long enough to ensure a strong primer strike.

I have installed several on both mine revolvers and those belonging to friends of mine. They work well. However, one can take a factory pawl and make it work just as well. I have gone to doing this procedure for the modification. The lack of clicks doesn't bother me a bit either.

I did the mod. to my factory Pawl and it is easy to do
and works Great.

I do all my NM Rugers My self. Never had a problem with them. I don't do it to the older mod's, Not too sure if it will work or not, Like the way they work with out the free spin.............Joe........

Spend the $35.00 on more lead and do it yourself. Like the others have already said, It's pretty easy to do. I'm all for spending money on things that require it, but this one will certainly make you wish you hadn't when you compare the two pawls. Good luck and good shooting!

I put the free spin pawl in both of my vaqueros. It took just a little fitting with one, and absolutely none in the other. The instructions tell you exactly what to do; they're easy to read. Buy the part and install it yourself, if you're at least a little savy with tools.

Then again, unless you're cowboy action shooting, or doing something else that requires quick reloads, why bother? If it's a plinker or a hunting gun, you probably don't really NEED the chamber to line up with the loading gate, although it is kind of a pain in the arse when it doesn't.
