I looked and looked but could not find the place to vote for a Dodge!!! Those fine old power Wagons are beast in the thick stuff and the woods...and the new ones set up right are no slouches either!!!....<><....

(I don't really know if I would have voted Dodge over Toyota but it would have been nice to have the chance)

toyotas...by far...at least the older ones.  I have a 1989 yota pickup and I 4 wheel it all the time and not just taking it out on logging roads, I do gnarly rutted out hill climbs and hit the mud once in a while.  I have never had anything go wrong with the truck since I have had it and it has gone through hell, although been maintained well.  From everything I have heard and seen and experienced the toyotas hold up the best out of anything and I am a Chevy man!

Braz475 and SAWgunner are both right on the money. I had an older Toyota that was "bulletproof" and could not get stuck!!! Since that I have bought a Dodge Ram and it also has not let me down...Those seem to be the 2 best choices. Of course a Dodge vote was not an option!!! Predjudiced perhaps?....<><....

I think consumer buying answers this one. Ford is still the best selling truck, there is a reason why!

after  6 jeeps ( 47- 92 ) it is proven the to me jeep has to be rebuilt to make it dependable, chev power, truck trans, posi rear ends, etc.......
At present my 89 toyota V6 is what goes to the hills and the 99 Dodge Cummins pull the escape pob-trailer and 4wheeler. Getting the bug to build another 80s CJ.

Well if McDonalds is the best selling fast food,,,,,it must be the best in the minds of the majority of the people who eat fast food.  So if Ford is the best selling truck, it must be considered to be the best truck to those interested in buying trucks.

...which would include all the soccer moms, Yuppies and "Extreme Sports" wannabes that never really leave the road.  Ford sells in numbers because they are somewhat cheaper and have more of the options that Soccer moms want.  Based on this criteria, I had a 20 some odd year old subaru brat that was the toughest truck because I let it go with almost 300k miles on it and never left the road.

By the way, the  toughest trucks are M1097 HMMWVs and M44A3 Deuce and a halfs with Dodge coming in a close third.

Wasn't it Hitler that said in Mein Kampf that if the sheep/people heard something more than 8 times they started to believe it? I think it's really more on the order of 30 times, but in any event....
Does "Built Ford Tough" Ring a bell?
Hmmm...maybe thats why fords stock is not worth the paper its written on, they spend all their money telling the people how "tough" their trucks are... :-D  :)  :-D

On a side note here are the previous generation connecting rods from ford, chevy and dodge diesel engines for your enjoyment... :D

After seeing Chevy come in nearly last at 9%, it further reminds me of my own experiences with this make.

Actually the new fullsize Dodges are quite impressive offroad in stock form.
But to define toughest look at any fullsize Ford 4x4 built in the 70s.
Some may argue that. But they either don't have any experience with those trucks, Or they drive those sissy trucks that ware bowties. :D

Hooker, I don't mean to be a wise guy, I was driving one of those new ford trucks from the 70's and you are right they were tough and those older dodge powerwagons were a  good truck also.  Now  I do drive one of those how do you say "sissy truck that ware bowties" some of use have earned that right.  My latest is a 05 f-350 crew cab, diesel, short bed, even has a moon roof my wife likes them see what 40yrs of marriage does.  On those below zero mornings going up elk hunting those heated seats are nice on these old bones.  I don't know if I could handle a day now in a 4x4 from the 60's we sure put together some nice trucks back then but they were hard riding ones.  Well good luck to all.

My old man had three of those 70's "tuff" fords, and as I recall the engines were very weak. The best one he had was the one with the 300 6cyl, and there seemed to be a race between the frame and the body to see which one would rust through first.. :-D  :-D .... :D

BTW..on the 81 f150 my dad had and the 87 f250 my brother in law had, the frame won the race.. :)  :)

What people need to take into consideration is the experience of the driver in offroading. I have seen some of the toughest trucks go no where do to the drivers ability. What makes a taught truck is one that has the power, set up and ruggedness to last from the abuse from offroading. I still stick with my Dodge Ram.  :D
