I have a Winchester pre 64 model 94 that I removed the front stock to make cosmetic repairs to but now I can't get the rear barrel band screw to line up for anything. It comes close; about half the width of the screw but thats it.
Anybody have any suggestions or know of a trick to fix this? Any help would be appreciated.

zeek - what kind of cosmetic repairs did you make? As I recall the rear barrel band setup, the screw passes through a slot cut in the underside of the barrel. Unless you cosmetic changes somehow offset the screw travel, ti should like right up. Is the screw bent a bit? Is there any bedding or varinsh or anything in the fore stock channel where the screw passes through? Is the barrel band bent or damaged that you can see?

mikey; The stock was refinished and new screws installed with worn out lock bolt replaced and thats all. Neighter the new or old band screw will line up. When I ordered the new screws from Weisners and told them what the problem was they said it was rather common. Said the finnish was probably the problem even with only three coats rubbed in. Zeek

It doesn't take much finish build-up to prevent the forearm from seating deep enough in the front of the receiver or the barrel band seating on the step in the forearm. Assuming that the forearm must move to the rear, you may have to clean up those shoulders on the wood to set it back.
