Which do you like? Detachable magazine, hinged floorplate,or no floorplate. Any bad experiences?

They each have their purpose.
Detachable magazine makes for easy vehicle carry, fast loading when game is spotted.
Hinged floorplate, probably the best for all around hunting use, easy to unload at end of day, easy to clean.
No floorplate, makes for a more affordable gun.
I own all three types.

I may be in the minority here but I would take a detachable mag any day of the week.  Been using them for 32 years with no problems.  I hate having to eject every shell or have them all fall out in my hand hat or whatever at the end of the day.  Just drop the mag and eject one shell.  To me it is the best.

I guess we are both minorities, as I feel the same way.  It just makes everything so much easier for me.  Load up the mag, put it in my pocket in my parka, get to the stand, and when the temperature is -14 (yes, 2 years ago, that was the temp on opening day), there is no fumbling around trying to load up the gun in the stand.  And let me tell you, it is not fun to load ice cold brass into a gun!

Keep the gloves on, and pop in the mag, and your set.   :D

I like hinged floor plates. Easier and safer IMHO to unload than a blind magazine and nothing to forget as with a detachable. I have detachable magazine firearms too.

I guess I can't imagine forgetting my magazine for the rifle I am going to use.  It would be like forgetting your hunting knife or hunting license.  But I do tend to be a "list guy" where I make a list and ck it twice before going hunting.

I like them all, but I'd really like a Ruger style rotary magazine for larger calibers.......if it would work?

In a bolt action rifle give me a hinged floor plate type every time.  Don’t care for the no floor plate versions for safety reasons(don’t like the idea of having to chamber to unload one) and have had bad luck with detachable magazines(I had the magazines drop out of the two that I did own).  Lawdog

My experience with a detachable mag was that it limited how far out I could seat the bullet.  Couldn't get anywhere close to the lands.

Probably not an issue if you are not reloading.

Personally, I like the hinged floor plate.

I prefer a blind box.  I always unload without chambering any of the rounds in the box.

Contendernut,  do you use duct tape to attach your magazine to your Contenders?
