how to load a 500 S&W /650-700 grainers
« on: April 15, 2005, 06:19:25 AM »
Hello everybody, a friend of mine has a 500 S&W 4", we shoot it quite a bit, but he is wanting to get into reloading for it, but was wondering about loading the 650-700 grainers from mountain molds. Where would you even start to find loading info for a bullet that heavy? And who is making the better loading dies carbide of course, what type of crimp should be used. I load 44mags, but this is a whole new ball game, and there just is not much info out there for the heavyweights.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, Halfbreed

I have load data up to 700 gr. bullets for the 500 MAG. I don't think you will find any load data for the 650 or 700 gr. in any books. I got my load data from Ranger Rick. He has been loading the 700 gr. bullets for awhile now. E-mail me and I will send you the data, but you need Excel to down load it.

Lee makes carbide dies and also there factory crimp die works very good. You will have to send in a dummy round for them to make you a factory crimp die.  :D

Redhawk1, I have tried to send you a couple of e-mails, but for some odd reason I am not able to get through. I just wanted to thank you for your effort with the info.
However I also found some info at www.mountainmolds.com on their forum, there is some info from a quickload program, and some info from John Ross website as well. John's has alot of very good data. I know this wil help, now I just need to get a mold and a handgun and and and, LOL

Redhawk1, thank you for your time and effort, I realize I don't have the excel program you mentioned earlier. I just ain't too smart on this computer stuff. Sorry to have wasted your time.
I have although come up with some good info from mountain molds and John ross's website on loading heavy bullets in the 500 s&w.
 Thanks again, John
