Ruger M77 Question
« on: April 14, 2005, 09:45:49 PM »
Hi
I am looking at getting a Ruger M77 Barreled action, and putting it on an accurate inovation stock. My question is, I thought I have read on one of these forums that Ruger does not free float there barrels, will I have any problems free floating it, and what should I do if I do have problems.

Thank you all for any help :D

While it is true that Ruger and other companies don't float their barrels at the factory there is no problem with floating them.  I like to have the action and chamber area of the barrel glass bedded and the rest of the barrel floated.  My Ruger 77 is done this way and I shot five shot groups with its favorite load as small as 3/8", it normally averages less then 3/4" for five shot groups so I would say to go ahead and do it.
Good Shooting,
George

Mr. Foster is right on.  I free-floated my Ruger 280 and it shoots alot more consistant now.  I found it easy to do but my stock is laminated wood and not synthetic material.  Good luck.
