Thoughts on Bell and Carlson Carbelite Stocks?
« on: April 13, 2005, 03:58:00 AM »
I'd like to hear any feedback on the Bell and Carlson Classic Carbelite stocks.  I'm looking to pick up a synthetic stock and don't know much about any of the aftermarket ones.  I'm sure the B&C won't be on par with a McMillian or H.S. Precision, but I really don't want to shell out as much as they cost.  I'm assuming the Ram-Line is a hollow (loud) stock but I'm unsure as I've never handled one of them.  How does the B&C feel?  Is it light, solid, with no hollow thump?

Any input is appreciated as well as recommendations.  Thanks,

JCM

JCM,
Ive done several of these B&C stocks for friends. No they're not the equal of a McMillen , but they are 1/3 of the cost. Hollow stocks are easy to fix. Just drill some access holes and fill them with self expanding foam from any home improvment store(insulation and or weather proofing sections). The stuff I get around here is called "Tuff Stuff". Then I usually glass bed them to perfect the fit to the individual rifle. The glass must form a mechanical lock in the stock or it won't hold. If you don't understand this get a pro to bed it for you, as the glass won't just stick to the plastic/glass stock unless properly preped

I had a chance to look at the B&C stock - and then the McMillan side by side. You are right on the cost  - McMillan's are very high. Then my wife (bless her little pea pickin heart) said - how long are you going to keep that rifle. I thought about it and this one will be a rifle that I "think" I will have until the day I die - she then said why would you not want the best stock on it. Well - I purchased the McMillan - I have never held a stock that is as nice as the McMillan. And yes - this will be a rifle that I will keep and will hope it will be passed down from my hands to my son's hands.
If your using the B&C stock for general hunting - fun shooting - I think you would be well pleased with it. It would be my second choice in a heart beat. But if you get a chance - grab a hold of a McMillan - WOW! :D
Don't cry because its over - Smile because it happened!
