peep sight for blackhawk?
« on: April 12, 2005, 01:13:57 PM »
i found a website with peep sights for my ruger blackhawk and they look real good . they have a 9/32" aperture and a 7/32" for longer ranges. it looks like they will be good for hunting. any one tried these or have any thoughts on them? my max hunting range is 75 yards on deer and hogs. i really dont want to scope the pistol . thanks  icthus

You must be talking about the "One Ragged Hole" sight.  I have one on my 44mag Super Blackhawk.  I like it ...

I installed them after finding what I thought was a good hunting load.  I saw an honest 25% improvement in my groups.

They went from good, to GREAT!

I have the smaller aperature installed.

My Blackhawk is outfitted with the 'one ragged hole' sight.  Improved my accuracy.  But, 75 yards might be pushing the accuracy limit; atleast for me.

One of  you folks with the sight, if it's not too much trouble could you measure the diameter of the aperture and material around it?  I made one a few years ago and took it off because I wasn't pleased with it.  After seeing the photo, I realize I was probably half the diameter of the One Ragged Hole version.  I'll drill that sucker out and try again.

Hey, MTjerry----I started using one on my SBH Hunter also and I like it but would like to try a gold bead or fiber optic front sight  with it---seems like a round rather than square front  would center faster---what do you think? :? pg

I put one on my Blackhawk 41 mag. I don't really think it helped or hurt my group size. I did notice the other day when I was pointing it around in the basement, it seems to be a little tougher picking up the front sight in low light conditions.

WVHILLBILLY, :D  Hey where ya located. Clarksburg area here.

jar,

 I'm from southern Upshur County!

I read somewhere that the sight could not be set low enough and groups were always high.  Has anyone else had this problem?

I have a good zero at 50yds and still have adjustment left. Load is Hdy 240gr XTP over 24gr H110----have some 310 gr lead over 20gr H110 to try next. :-) pg

I thought the manufacturers claim was that their sigtht was sized to eliminate the typical problem with Ruger Revolvers running out of sight adjustment.  I put one on a Single Six and the factory sight was all the way down and needed to go further.  It is now sighted in with room to spare.
