anyone know how to find out????
« on: April 12, 2005, 12:29:46 PM »
got a fella with a cutom built rifle , and before i buy it i want to know more about it , he hasnt a clue got it on a trade , so all i have to work with is this? on the barrel it says nothing but - HUFF 243- thats  the only marking on the barrel , it is a 26in very heavy made barrel ,
now action looks like a mauser98 but no markings except across the top of the reciver it is maked - Y 1903/ 14 on the bolt side of the reciver its marked 2703A, it has a cross inside of a shield on the top also like a red cross type of cross inside the shield ,on the bolt itself its marked 8201B and has what  looks like a guy on a horse stamped on it , which is very small  , this riflr shoots very well needs a trigger job real bad thought which is what iam wondering about if it can be worked on  or is it a lemon in disgiuse? also  can u give me a ballpark on worth ? price range ?

Sounds like a Springfield O3-A3, which is an excellent action. It is an old military piece that is easily sportsterized. I've built a couple of them in .30/'06. Slap a Match Star barrel and make yourself a nice stock and you're good to go. I have kept track of 2 of the rifles and after 20+ years the owners still love them.

Put a new trigger on it. It's worth the effort.
