The Remington 24 is John Browning's .22 auto design, made by Remington during a period when the US imposed a huge tariff on Belgian goods (Belgium was considered then the way we consider China today... a place that was taking jobs from American workers).
It's identical and design and function to the modern-day Browning .22 auto rifle although parts will not interchange.
If the barrel is in good condition it should be a good shooter. Like the Browning, you can adjust the barrel nut to ensure a tight fit between barrel and receiver.
I've had a couple of these go through the shop and the buyers were happy with them. If the condition of your rifle is such that it holds no collector value, why not restore it by refinishing the stock and rebluing the metal?
