Marlin 1894 .44mag

I have been looking for a good lever action to compliment my super blackhawk and have found a Marlin 1894.  I don't have a lot of experience with lever actions.  Does anyone have any experience with these? Good, Bad?

I'm the opposite of you.  Thinking about getting a Blackhawk to go with my Marlin.

I have the model 1894C (.357 Mag.) which is similar to the 1894.  The action was rough at first, but after a good cleaning, cycling the action a couple of hundred times and firing 100 rounds or so, it has smoothed out.
It is a really nice handling gun and is extremely accurate with open sights!

There are several websites catering to Marlin guns (i.e. marlinowners.com) that may be or interest/assistance to you.

Thanks guys for the replies.  That is one thing I forgot to mention.  The dealer said the gun I am looking at was built in either '63 or '64.  I don't even know the specific barrel length, it just seemed to balance well and looks like it was very well taken care of.

I have the 1894p which is a 44/16.25" barrel. Great little rifle, they pop up all the time on the used market, and from what I have heard usually in good condition. I think the original owners find the recoil a little to sharp. Mine is ported and still give you a good jolt. Keep looking.

Since Marlin didn't start making them until 1969 I sorta doubt the accuracy of the info provided by the dealer. At least that's the date my reference book says they started. Back about the time frame mentioned they made a Model 336 in .44 Mag for two or three years. I have one of those.

I have a Marlin Cowboy II in .44. It has become my favorite by a mile. It does everything and does it well. Mine has a 24" barrel.
