hi guys
recently acquired a tikka t3 with a synthetic stock,after much deliberation re wood vs synthetic i might add
anyhow i want to try and deaden that hollow sound the stock makes when it hits anything solid........any ideas??
the guy in the gunshop says one of his customers filled his stock up with expanding foam,the stuff you spray out of a can and it sets hard like a honeycombe
anyone tried this method?

Sounds like a good idea, especially if you don't want to add any weight to it. KN

I've read you can stuff foam "peanuts" for packing in the stock and quiet it down without adding too much weight.

I used the expansion foam in my Savage 10f. It worked great. Just be sure to remove the barreled action from the stock and wrap the stock in several layers of newspaper for protection. The foam is very nasty it you get it on anything. I put in enough to fill about 1/3 of the cavity and let it set for about an hour. I than had to add just a little more to fill it completely and let it set over night. If you get a little too much just trim it with a fresh razor blade. I just proped it up in my shop to let all of the fumes release.Hope this helps.
