Scout scope options?
« on: March 30, 2005, 02:52:57 PM »
I just purchased a leverscout scope mount for my model 94 Win. I need an eye relief of 10"-11" or so. I would like a fixed 2.5 with an objective of 28mm-32mm. I would love an illuminated dot or reticle. I want a quality scope. (No NCStar stuff) I can buy a "like new" Leupold 2.5x28 scout scope (I think it was M8) for $219.00 locally. I would like to keep it closer to $150 if I could. I would consider a fixed 2, 4 or a variable 2 to whatever. I think the Bushnell trophy 2-6x32 LER would work. What do you think?? Thanks.

Go with the leupold, you won't regret it.  IT was taylor made for this application.  The only other scope that I woudl recomend would be one of the burris scout scopes.  I went with the leupold because I really like the post reticle and the heavy post is very easy to pick up in low light and against mixed backgrounds.

What kind of rings do you have on that? They look like quick release. How do you like them? Do they hold zero?

They are warne quick release rings.  THey are great, I'm more than pleased with them. I have mounted and removed the scope several times and it always holds zero.  The only thing you have to do is make sure you place the scope on the same place on the mount.

Go with the Leupold, you will not regret the extra $s.

My Leupold M8 2.5x28mm should be arriving shortly.  Everyone I talked to said this is THE scope to use for this application.  Thanks for the advice.

Well I finally got around to mounting my scout scope on my model 94.
It's a Leupold M8 2.5X IER Scout Scope matte finish with Leupold QRW rings on an XS leverscout mount.  I'm very pleased with this setup!  It did not mess up the balance of the rifle at all.  It's just a fast to bring on target as the iron sights were.  I can tell my other rifles are going to be seeing alot less time in the field!  Thanks for the help. This set up is sweet!

you know if you are going in close and "irons" are not your cup of tea then you have joined up with the rest of us that have problems "seeing". My levergun is setup the same except I opted for the TC Maxima QR low rings. No real difference just differs in the levers is all. Quick aquisition and clear as a bell. Good huntin
