This could be interesting.  At that MSRP they should be priced about the same as the Mossberg ATR100; I'll reserve full judgement until I've seen the Stevens but it certainly is available in a much larger array of chamberings.

I have it on fairly good authority that Mossberg owns Savage and Savage owns Stevens. So they are all just one big happy family perhaps and all are just variations of the same Savage rifle????? Could be.

We had a long discussion some while back on the ownership of the Browning and Winchester companies. A member and I swapped a bunch of PMs on that subject and as an aside he mentioned strange ownership of Savage. He found it on a website that didn't last long after he found it. But the details of the purchase were there. Seems for some reason both companies are trying to keep it really hush hush. Why I'm not real sure. But then I'm not so sure just who owns Mossberg either. There seems to be a lot of mystery surrounding just who owns the various "American" name brand gun companies these days. Suffice to say not many have American ownership.

That's VERY interesting GB. I notice that all who have purchased the ATR rifles are bragging about what tack drivers they are. I also picked up on a rumor the these ATR rifles' barrels were made by Savage. If the NEW Stevens rifles are just like the ATR's only in different cals and with different stocks (I really don't like the ATR stocks) then they too should be tack drivers. I would have bought one of the ATR's but I already have both a 30-06 and a .270 Win. I would however, like to try one of these NEW Stevens rifles in either a .243 or a .223. The specs look very promising for a low end priced rifle...........button rifling, pillar bedded stock, which looks better to me than the ATR stocks BTW.
Just checked the SportsSouth page and they have several of these in inventory but not the .223 or .243. Maybe I'll see about finding one somewhere and guinea pig it and post the results.

New Price point
« Reply #7 on: March 29, 2005, 07:20:26 AM »
So the new price point for accurate rifles, ignoring looks, fit and finish, is $250...
Life is good!

I want a Savage action, for a project gun, and I do not own a 6mm.  I think
a Stevens .243 Win, sounds just about right.  Once I upgrade the trigger, and the
stock, and get the parts for a .223 bolt face, I can have a 20 Tactical, and a .243 Win,
for the time it takes to swap out barrels, and change bolt faces.   I am really liking
this 21st century!

This sounds like a nice project rifle...and I can only assume ...if they take off rather well...it won't be long before you can get different stocks for it...might be a good way to go when they come out with more calibers...

Sports South shows the long action M200 in stock, but none of the short actions are.....should be available at Walmart sometime....FWIW.

Mossberg 's are the old Charter Arms Rifles and there Barrels are made by ER Shaw. I've heard these Stevens are the same as 110's cept they don't have the acc. trigger & the have a Gray stock,I'd like to ethier have a 300WSM or a 300win. mag or a 325 WSM...guess I'll have wait and see.

The M200 won't be available in any short action magnum caliber, but the long action will be available in 7mmMag and 300 win mag.

Thanks for the info. I don't understand how the SA non-mag rifles weigh the same as the LA mag. rifles ???
Maybe I'll get a .308winny, Interesting cartridge...

I'm guessing it's like with a lot of other rifles, they round the numbers...SA are probably a little less than 6.5lbs, the LA are just a little over 6.5lbs.

Stevens 200

I bought a Stevens SA monday in .243 They are available and dealers can get them(oh dealer cost 229.00 if that helps)  After a lot of comparing it is exactly like the Savage hunter series ,without the accutragger. I haven't got to shoot mine yet, but it is pillar bedded and bbl is free floated. The trigger is not bad, but I can get to about any trigger. My big complaint is the molded stock ! the seams are pretty rough and I'm going to sand them down, then paint it if necessary. But, I must test fire it first, This is the exact type of rifle I'm looking for , A TRuck gun , for hard knocks. if this works out I might try and convert one to .358 win or 35/284
On the good side the metal finish is very good and the action smooth. and yes it is light !

Hardluck - Is that stock color a lght gray like a Rem 710 or is it darker than that? Also where did you happen to find a .243 if you don't mind me asking.
