Rem 700 Mountian LSS Accuracy?
« on: March 18, 2005, 12:52:22 PM »
I'm picking up a Remington 700 Mountain LSS in 7MM-08 this weekend.    I plan to mount a 3-9X40 Burris Fullfield II w/ Ballistic Plex reticle on her. I also plan to have the action glass bedded and will probably replace the trigger with a 1-1/2 lb to 4 lb Timney.

I'm a little concerned with the light weight taper barrel, but with the scope, glass bedding and replacement trigger, I would hope to achieve sum MOA performance out of this rifle / caliber.

Anyone got first hand experience with the Mountian LSS? (Greybeard) I was wandering what level of accuracy I can expect from this set up?

My son has one.  I reload for him.  His will shoot .75 - 3 shot groups.

You can generally expect MOA or better on any new Remington M700.  I own quite a few and it is very difficult to find a load that will actually shoot OVER 1MOA.

Glass bedding the action is a great idea because it promotes consistency.  Although not necessary, I recommend it.

Late reply I realize. I have a 700 mtn rifle .270 with DM, wood stock. Shooting acceptably when purchased but became erratic last year. This gun was bought used from a dealer. The pad at the front of the stock had been removed by previous owner(trying to float the barrel?) and the forend/barrel channelhad a trough routed out with a steel rod and epoxy in it.(trying to stiffen the forend?) Decided to glass bed it, all the way to the black forend tip. Stealing the idea from New Ultra Light Arms. Full contact on a light weight barrel. 3-4 shot groups can be covered with a nickle. Took it out this spring and shot 2 groups, a 4 shot with Hornady 140 BT and 3 shot with sierra 140 BT. Hornady's 3 shots vertically all touching and one to the right 1/2". The Sierra's were a 3 shot triangle all touching. 100 yds using sandbags.
