What would you like to see Remington chamber their 2006 Classic edition rifle in?

Doesn't really matter, no matter what I pick they won't. Never have. Not once have they picked one I wanted them too. It's a conspiracy I tell ya.  :)

Perhaps a .358 Winchester. Dat would be nice. I'd really love a 9,3x62 but really not as a Classic. I'd rather have it with laminated stock and more weight.

Other than those I think they will be hard pressed to sell me one regardless of what they select.

The first Remington rifle I ever bought was a 700 in 30-06.  I still have it.  If the 2006 Classic is 30-06, I'd buy one in a heart beat.

Excellent choice.  The only other Classic cartridge I can think of would be the .250 Savage.  Lawdog

250 Savage was done in 1984.

Can't see Remington doing anything but 30-06 even if it was done in late 70s.

Hard to go past the 30/06, but then maybe more manufacturers will bring out a centennial rifle for the grand warhorse...so why compete?
Okay, crystal ball says....
7mm Express (must have old brass they want to get rid of? :-D )
416Remington (surely a big bore classic by now, re-awakened the 416s and brought big game rifles back in vogue   )
425WR (truely a classic and Rem were dumb enough to put a J-lock on their rifles so it's got a chance with a bean counter somewhere? )
222 Remington Magnum (its got the name? )
Cheers...

jhm, it's kind of confusing, but here is the way I understand it. The classic came in two forms in the early years, a regular production rifle in standard calibers came out first. Then Remington also began producing a "limited edition" in a classic caliber, which changed every year. They kept making the "standard classic" at the same time. In 1985 they finally quit making the regular classic models, but kept the annual limited edition. So, the .30-06 has never been chambered in the "limited edition". 2006 would be the best year to do it.

2006 is also the 100th anniversary of another classic cartridge, & a Remington original to boot...the.35 REMINGTON!!!

This round has not yet been offered in the "classic" series. How appropriate to honor this fine cartridge on its hundred year anniversary.

If Iam not mistaken, I believe 2005 is the last year Remington will produce the classics. Or have they changed this?

Since this company is run by bean counters who do not understand what we shooters/hunters want, they are missing the boat again. 30-06 in 2006 would be a big seller. I was actually planning on buying one.

Remington should offer a BBS so they can get actual marketing data and produce great guns.

I have the Remington Classic in 6.5x55, one hell of a rifle, quite happy with mine.  What I'd like to see is the Classic model made a regular part of the model 700 line, especially since Remington has discontinued the ADLs.  Best wishes.

Cal,
I think this was Remington's intention with the introduction of the CDL.  Whether they succeeded or not, I do not know.

Hi fellows, I'm new here, and thought this thread would be a good place to submit my first comment.
I'm just a country boy who enjoys keeping the riff-raff cleared out of my area with my little varminter calibers.
I have some experience, but not extensively, and my overall favorites have always been from the Remington factory. Mostly from the Custom Shop.
Ironically enough, Remington also provided the worst excuse of a firearm I ever had the displeasure of owning. But that's an entirely different story!

Firearms used to be cheap!
So, never being fortunate enough to be the recipient of Gandpa's hand-me-down tack drivers, I had to learn on my own how to determine when a particular firearm was a good buy, and when it wasn't. As a result, I have owned several quality rifles of various brands and calibers.
Actually, the big companies are doing quite well now (despite the hair-raising prices), but in the late 60's thru 80's, conditions were quite different.
Suddenly their was a big lull after some new legislation that reduced government sponsorship in the shooting sports, and after decades of continuing refinements and production techniques, many of the companies were forced to make unwanted cuts, change ownership, or as in the case of some of the good oldies from the 1800s, forced entirely out of business.

Remington however always remained strong during these times, but the lineup of products being offered was pretty much at a minimum.
Regardless that the old line of standard models were still existent, anything new would have been a real gamble, and wisely, nobody dared to try and beat the odds.
The LIMITED EDITION CLASSIC was one of their better schemes that worked out well for everyone, and to boot, they were assigned to the boys in the Custom Shop to produce.
As stated by all the gun rags at the time, the special edition was intended to only last for 25 years, introduced with a unique caliber every year. They even asked for comments from shooters on what caliber their choice would be.
For the first several years, quality of wood and machining neared C grade custom shop work.
Unfortunately, the last Limited Edition Classic I purchased neither showed exemplary wood, nor the deep glossy bluing of the previous models, even though the price remained somewhat constant over the entire 25 year range.
So now, as back then, there may be some fudging to make sales easily cover the production costs, but the quality of the older lines of Remington products has remained intact. If that ever changes, Remington can likely begin to kiss their NUMERO UNO status goodbye.
Fortunately, all the production methods were perfected in the 30s and 40s, so even a group of monkeys on the production line couldn't foul anything up. That is, unless supervision suddenly decides that some major changes will now be necessary.

Ok, I understand the model ADL is gone.  It's been around for a lot of years, but so has the BDL.  Is it going to bite the dust also?  The new CDL looks quite similar to me.  The only change I see is the more conservative stock.  The one that bothers me is the demise of the Classic model.  This is its 25th. and final year.  I have three of them in various calibers, and all are excellent performers.  During all the complaining about the BDL in recent years none of the negativeness has been aimed at the Classic model.  It's a good one, and now it's being discontinued.  I would think Remington would introduce other models to take up the slack.  Blow this one Remington and it may all be over.  I guess we'll have to wait and see.  Best wishes.
