Pivoting or stationary Bipods???
« on: March 14, 2005, 05:56:24 AM »
I am going to get a bipod for my 300 RUM, and was wondering if I should get a pivoting or stationary model.  I'm looking at a Harris type bipod, actually its a knockoff by Outers but it is identical.  I imagine the stationary is better for bench shooting, but is the pivoting that benefical to hunting situations.

I have a Versapod and think it's much nicer than the Harris models. It pivots to a reasonable degree and is easy to deploy for field shots.

I've heard that the versapod is a bit sloppy.  But very good for unstable ground.  And iamb not thrilled about there ratcheting legs, Noisy I would guess.

I use the Harris swivel type and love them. I used to only use the stationary ones. Then I tried a swivel, never went back.   KN

Yeah, I have a fixed model on my .220 Swift, and it leaves a little to be desired.  I love the povoting models, though.

Buckskin,
I've found that the fixed bipods work well off the bench, but are difficult to use in the field on uneven ground.  The swivel is usually enough to allow you to take the cant out if you don't have a flat surface to shoot off of.
Best,
