Scope mount question Savage 112 in 300 Win Mag
« on: March 11, 2005, 07:13:04 AM »
The scope is a Simmons Whitetail Expedition 4-12 42 mm and I wanted to use Burris Double Dovetail mounts.  The mag action seems too long for that setup and I may need an "extension" base or rings.  Anyone familiar with this setup and can give me a lead on a solution.  I am looking for a very sturdy mount because this rifle is going on 10 day Elk hunt on horseback in September and I don't want to lose a 6x6 over crappy mounts.  Thanks guys.

You might try burrisoptics.com. They have a pretty complete website with FAQs and an e-mail contact setup. With the dovetail type mount, if you know scope eye relief and how much working space you have between the power adjustment ring and the adjustment turret you can figure whether extension rings are necessary. As for action length, a two piece mount would resolve that if the one piece wouldn't fit. Then your only problem is what ring height to get. midwayusa.com probably has information on Burris ring heights or Burris could supply that info. Good luck.

Thanks for the tip.  Midway has Burris reversable DD bases that will work perfectly.  The DD matte medium rings I need are on backorder but I can wait.
