Winchester Model 88 - 100 magazine.
« on: March 09, 2005, 03:36:27 AM »
I've got a model 88 308, and am trying to find an extra magazine at a more reasonable price than ebay.  I have the opportunity to buy 2 model 100 magazines.  They are new in the original packaging non factory model 100 magazines for $25 each.  I'm wondered if they will work in an 88.  I know that the 88 mag will work in a 100, but not hold the action open after the last case is ejected.  Will a model 100 magazine work in a model 88 lever action?  Thanks, cflier

I believe they are interchangeable.  Can you handle them, or are they mail order?  If you can, I would try them in your 88 and see if you can cycle the action.  Or take your magazine and lay it alongside of the new ones to see if they are different.  I know that years ago someone claimed my magazine is actually for the model 100, and it works fine.  $25 is one heck of a price.  I'd be tempted to buy them just to see if they work.  You should be able to peddle them with no problems if they don't.

Some say they will and some say they won't.  In truth, it probably depends on the gun and magazine.  Be sure you can return them if they don't fit.  I bought a 100 magazine for my 88 (post '64) and it did NOT work.  I have had other owners of 88s tell me that they DO work.  If you buy them and they work, I'll buy one from you for $40.  I don't have an extra.
