Laminated/Stainless
« on: March 08, 2005, 07:32:52 PM »
I'm going to pick up a lam/stain in the next few months in a 30.06.The three rifles I'm looking at are: Sako Grey Wolf, Tikka T3 LS and Rem. Mountain LSS.
I've read alot of positive articles on the Finnlight, but have not seen anything on the Grey Wolf. Does anyone have any experience with this model?
Went to Sportsman's Warehouse the other day and shouldered a Finnlight (only Sako they had) and a Mountain LSS. Both rifles felt good, but the Sako really stood out. The bolt action was so smooth.
If I went with a Mountain LSS is there any work that can be done to make the action just as slick? If so, how much does something like that cost? Any other suggested tweaks?

Thanks for reading and look forward to any replies.

I've got a tikka in .308, but it is the blued version.  i've heard (in this forum) that the stainless tikka's were having serious barrel problems.  Not sure what the latest is on this, though.

One can never go wrong with a Sako.  Tikka's are probably just as good IMHO, and a little cheaper.

I'm now playing with a Savage bvss in .243 that is stainless and laminated.  Its a bench gun (12 lbs), but i like the looks.  It has the accu trigger and is quite accurate out of the box...

good luck

I put a Remington Mountain LSS in 30-06 on layaway.  I can't wait to pick it up.  I loved the look and feel.

I was between the Tikka and the Remington as well.  Some things l liked better on the Tikka some things I liked better on the Remington. I thought both bolts were really smooth.

Decided on the Remington.  Hopefully I made the right choice.

Although I don't care for laminated stocks(better than any plastic stock though) or stainless I would go with the Sako.  Just a better rifle than the others.  Lawdog

My vote goes to the Sako also.  :D

The Sako blows the Remington away any time.

But my biggest complaint about this particular Remington model (other than being a Remington) is they saw fit to put a shiney pimp finish on a laminated stock----what's up with that????

Re-read---not the Mountain model------but the standard LSS model.

Thank you Gentlemen for taking the time to reply. Really Appreciate it.

Let me rephase part of my original post. Has anyone ever seen a Sako Grey Wolf? This model is most intriguing to me since I can't find ANYTHING on it. Except on the Beretta site.

The Sako Grey Wolf is a new rifle for this year, I ordered one 2 weeks ago in 7wsm very anxious to get it. They told me they should start shipping from Finnland in June. So it will be awhaile before anyone will be able to touch one.

Thanks BC,
I guess that explains why no one has any info on them. I'd really like to know what you think about it once you get it and put it through the motions. Also, could I be real Snoopy and ask the price? I'm figuring around $1100 or so.

I paid 1200.00 for it. I am sure it might have been cheaper if I didn't special order it, but it was exactly what I was waiting for and I did not want to miss out. Plus I was hoping that they would chamber the 7wsm and when I saw that gun and it was now being offered in the 7wsm I jumped on it. In fact when I called the dealer, they did not even here of the gun, so he looked on the web site just to make sure I was not feeding him a line of b.s. Now I have the long wait ahead of me, I hate waiting.

Good luck with your adventure

BC,
I'm really stoked for you!! Just knowing that it is in the works has to make you absolutely giddy! I'm really anticipating getting one soon. But not soon enough.
I think I'm going to head into town this weekend and see what my local dealer can do for me.
Let us know when you get it.
